    Pros: Great

    Cons: Great

This album just proves that this froggy mans voice has godd some good skill. His career only was 2 albums but the prices you see listed are high but worth the buy. His raw beats and underground rhymes match really well with everything he does and mak...es him platnium in my book. Read more Less

Pros: well written, fairly unique sound

    Cons: PROFILE RECORDS [poor management]

In 1995, I ran across a single with "WHATCHA WANT", "REDRUM", and a couple of other songs by accident. I'd never heard of NINE before, but the single was great. I bought "NINE LIVEZ", listened to it for a few months,... and the more I listened the more convinced I was NINE was getting ready to blow up. Then in '96, "CLOUD 9" was released and was a little bit off. I just figured it was the standard "sophomore jinx" and the 3rd album would bring him back up. Then Mr. Keys appearently fell off the planet [thanks PROFILE]. "NINE LIVEZ" has to be one of the best unknown CDs ever put out, but nothing was ever done to help the artist. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

With legendary NYC DJ Funkmaster Flex in his corner, the raspy-voiced Bronx MC Nine released his debut album in 1995. The self-proclaimed straight-out-the-gutter MC tattoos his rabid delivery and distinctly salacious lyrical bravado all over the album. The song that got the buzz going for this alley cat was "Whatchu Want," a slick radio-friendly joint despite its street mentality; the rest of the album belies the crossover appeal of this track. Nine's lyrics scratch, thrash and claw on tracks like "Redrum" and "Everybody Won Heaven." The infectious, uneven groove supplied on "Redrum" is the artist at his grimy, lowdown best. The Spinners' classic '70s soul tune "I'll Be Around" is the driving impetus behind arguably the best track on the album, "Any Emcee." It's smooth ruggedness pays homage to the B-Boy tradition by featuring a superb lyrical sample from the legendary Rakim. Nine's throaty, expressive vocal tone gives this album a distinctively rugged slant. While far from a classic, ...Nine Livez is an under-appreciated album from an underrated artist. - M.F. Biography

Nine

The portrait of a starving MC, Bronx-native Nine got his big break in late 1993 as a featured guest on Funkmaster Flex and the Ghetto Celebs' "Six Million Ways to Die." The verse showcased Nine's harsh, gravelly flow and the artist was signed a deal with the now-defunct Priority Records. Nine's debut album, Nine Livez, appeared in early 1995 on the strength of the up-te... Read more
