Pros: 4000dpi, fairly fast, GEM
Cons: bad, bad slide feeder
On a dual processor G4 Mac with 384MB of RAM, I'm not getting the 20 second scan speeds that Nikon claims, but I do get complete scans in 34-40 seconds, which is still not too bad. The GEM post-processing seems to revitalize my old slides pretty well in terms of bringing out the colors. The "ICE" infra-red dust & scratch removal does do a good job at removing dust & scratches, but also tends to blur the entire image bad enough that I have decided not to use it. Plus it raises scan times from 40 seconds to 160 seconds (i.e., it adds 2 minutes per scan).
The biggest disappointment was the optional SF-210 slide feeder. I had hoped that it wouldn't jam as often as its predecessor, but alas, after about 10 attempts, the record number of successful scans in a row still stands at 2. Yes, the "50-slide feeder" can only do about 2 slides before it jams, which makes it completely worthless. I feared as much. Obviously Nikon needs to give up on their current slide feeders and go for a carosel attachment that would be jam-free. Their current feeders just don't work. Rats. ...
