One of the key advances developed for the D80 is its high-resolution image-processing engine. At its heart is a dedicated high-performance processing chip that greatly accelerates performance on all levels, while also consuming less power than its predecessors. It also inherits advantages developed exclusively for Nikon's latest professional digital SLR cameras, combining color independent analog pre-conditioning with improved 12-bit digital image processing algorithms. The result is natural-looking images that benefit from faithful color and tone reproduction. The level of performance attained allows the engine to rapidly and efficiently process the 10.2-megapixel resolution images captured by the DX Format CCD image sensor.

Pros: Love the pics and the manual controls

Cons: Manual is not the easiest to interpret

I've use the 35mm film cameras in the past, so I'm use to aperture settings, f-stops and the like. This is a great camera for the money. Takes great pics. I also purchased the 18mm-200mm lens, so I'm not constantly changing lenses. I ...would also recommend getting a filter lens to help with protection of the actual lens. Read more Less

Pros: Excellent Quality Pictures, Very Versatile

Cons: At Very High ISO, pictures come out grainy, but which camera doesn't have that problem?

This is an excellent beginner's camera. I personally didn't know much about photography until I finally got a professional camera, believe me, once you go dSLR you won't go back. there are just so many features that you can use its unbeli...evable. From the way the buttons are layed out to the photoprocessing features you can do on the the camera is just right. Sure, this isn't a cheap camera, but it's worth every dollar. I recommend buying a UV filter for your lens, this will protect it from getting scratched and it's best to replace a $15-$20 filter than your $300-$400 lens. Its a great buy, I highly recommend it. Nikon D80

I was very impressed with the D80. It can be a powerful photographic tool with its Manual, Aperture priority, and Shutter priority modes, however, even the least experienced photographer can pick it up and capture beautiful photos using the Auto, Program or one of the Digital Vari-Program scene modes. With an MSRP of US$1299.95 for the body and 18-135mm lens outfit, it's a bit more expensive than its competitors, however we feel it offers an outstanding value for such a capable model. Read more
