Pros: Great camera, good value for money, amazing results!
Cons: None that i've discovered so far!
I have been using a Minolta Maxxum 7 film camera. After that died on me some months back -- some manufacturing defect and I couldn't send the camera back to US to claim for warranty. I decided to go for Nikon D300.
Since the first time I held the camera I knew this was it. Love its big body, it fits in the hand nicely. The multi-direction pad on the back makes browsing through the menu a breeze. I tried Canon 50D, but its rotating selector didn't impress me.
Pictures come out amazing even at ISO 800 .. however anything above and the quality of the image drops.
Overall, best camera ever for its price!
Pros: Superb image quality
Cons: -
I love this camera!
Pros: On the whole..great camera
Cons: Malfunctions
I had my D300 for under a year and the 'battery low' light started coming on and then shutting down the camera. I had new charged batteries so I know that wasn't the problem. I sent it to Nikon and they updated the firmware and no more problem. Now three months later I am suddenly getting a black screen. At first it happened once in a while and now much more frequently. I take a shot and all I get is a black image. If I enhance it, there is a complete image there, so I know it isn't the mirror sticking. Any suggestions? Sue
Pros: Everything from better color control to better ISO noise levels in the high ranges.
Cons: None
Going from a D80 to a D300 was a huge step in the quality of shots. The camera itself wont make you a great photographer, but as a tool its a huge step forward in creating a better shot.
Noise levels have exceeded my expectations at high ISO. The camera is the best piece of equipment for any photographer who wants to take their pictures to a new level.
Nikon hit the nail on the head with the D300 and i wont be upgrading this camera for along time.
Pros: flexibility, speed
Cons: maybe a little heavy to keep hand held all day... (but worth it)
You know those purchases you make once in a rare while that you are continually rewarded by? This camera is one of mine. I shot a film SLR until 2002 when I got a digital Pentax 555. That camera was so easy and flexible I didn't need a film SLR. When the D300 came out I decided to splurge on a DSLR. My old Minolta SLR now gathers dust.
This camera makes it really intuitive to take pictures and make adjustments on the fly. The Nikon lenses are fast focusing and quiet. I only end up with blurry images when there is a lot of movement in the frame and the camera gets confused by what to focus on (51 point focal area).
My favorite feature is the knob that lets me switch from spot metering to frame metering without diving into a menu. The thumb wheels and front buttons are customizable.
I use a remote flash with this (SB-800) frequently and the built in flash can remotely trigger the remote flash in a TTL mode! Very cool.
Pros: Ergonomics, Rugged, High Dynamic Range
Cons: Designed for Serious Photographers not Occasional Users
This camera will make it a lot easier for you to consistently create technically perfect photographs. Focus, Color Balance, and exposure are yours to manipulate with control right where you need them to be.
The D300 really does work in the rain.
Get the MB-D10 Multi Power battery pack/grip to make portrait photography eaiser (and faster).
Get a couple 8 Gig Compact Flash Cards- you get about 450 RAW 14-bit photo's per card. That might take you just a few minutes to fill on a busy day.
Pros: Fast fps, great image quality, extended amount of features and tweaking options
Cons: Not a pro DSLR!
I upgrade from a Nikon D50 and the D300 is just simply amazing. I shoot sports photography and the fps is great, especially once you add the MB-D10 battery pack (boosts it up from 5fps to 8 fps with en-el4a batter or rechargeable double a batteries). Image quality is superb, ISO sensitivity produces low noise, just amazing. The only thing is that it is not considered a professional DSLR, so if you want to become a Nikon Pro it isn't considered a pro camera.
