Nice Camera, Great Point and Shoot

    By wrk1000  Nov 25, 2005 | 23 out of 23 found this Nikon Coolpix 7600 review helpful

Pros: Quality, Small Size, Great Looking Pictures

Cons: Auto focus in movie mode at times is slow to focus.

I’ll start with saying this camera is small, and although small, it still is easy to hold. Going on, this is a great camera for people who just want to point and click. There are 5 movie modes, from full size TV viewing to tiny web camera like video...s. The movie mode will pick up objects in quite dark settings, although by doing quality suffers as the artificial backlight process makes the video quite grainy. In full light the video works well. One complaint is the auto focus mode in movie mode seems to lag just a bit if you are continually zooming in and out and changing targets, but this is camera is primarily for photos and not for video. That said, it still takes video better then any digital I have used or seen. On the photo side, there are 6 quality modes for still photos. This camera has your typical night mode, landscape mode, with a few adjustments for each depending on the type target you are shooting, and a "face priority " which helps you center photo's I guess, haven't played with that. It also has an "action mode" which allows you to better snap moving targets. Snapping photos of the kids jumping in the leaves had pretty good results, as they were pretty clear. Not like the digitals of old, in which anything other than a snails pace the photo was blurry. This camera also takes AA batteries, which I like, and there is a setting in the camera for both the rechargeable and the alkaline batteries. I have used both types of batteries and both last for quite some time, not at all like the cameras of old. All in all I give this camera 5 stars. Read more Less

    great camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 25, 2006 | 6 out of 6 found this Nikon Coolpix 7600 review helpful

Pros: very clear pictures, enlarged pict are great!

    Cons: tough for action shots

I love this camera! It's my first digital after playing with 35mm for many years. Everything works great. The manual is a little confusing, but readable and eventually you figure it out. The only problem I've had is that when you press the b...utton to take the picture, there is a small time lag before the exposure is captured. I know this is typical of P&S digitals, but I am a little disappointed. Not only with sports shots, but 'action' shots of the grand-kids; you sometimes miss that certain look on someone's face. You have to learn to anticipate a little. The auto focus seems a little slow sometimes too, but tolerable. Overall, It's a good camera. Read more Less

    Not Good

By JosephS  Oct 9, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Nikon Coolpix 7600 review helpful

Pros: Great quality photos in good light.

Cons: Doesn't work well under low or medium light conditions.

Got mine for a Christmas. My 7600 camera is not nearly light sensitive enough & only works well under very good lighting conditions. When taking a pic, it seems to me that due to the lack of light sensitivity of this camera, the aperature must stay o...pen an extremely LONG period of time (1/10? 1/5?!) depending on the lighting conditions. The result is much of the time I get blurry photos unless you hold the camera PERFECTLY still. I just cant count on it to take a good picture at all times, especially in less than ideal lighting conditions. It is so bad that I've decided that I am either going to have to carry around a tripod to hold the camera perfectly still (not going to happen), or I'm just going to have to buy another camera. I could be missing a setting, but don't think so. Too bad 'cause I like my other Nikon (D70). Read more Less

By Adrian  Dec 13, 2005 | 2 out of 3 found this Nikon Coolpix 7600 review helpful

    Pros: great picture quality, size

Cons: flash charge after taking a picture is really slow

This camera is easy to hold for its small size. It's good quality for its price. This is my second digital camera and it sure was better than my last one!

    Buy it! NOW!

Pros: anyone can use it, yet it has professional portrait, panaromaic, architectural settings that anyone can use.

Cons: flash is slow to recharge, fast action shots are tough in auto mode

Fantastic value for a 7.1MP camera. The cons you read in the above reviews are pretty accurate, but my comments are; it is not intended to shoot movies, that is basically a novelty feature & the movies are pretty darn good for the most part. Get a 2G...B card and you can shoot a 30 min movie. When I purchased it I did not even know it shot movies anyhoo. You have to play around with some of the settings to get good action shots. Make someone run around or photo car going by to get the right setting. The flash is a bit slow, but, this camera is a point & shoot comercial product for the novice & aspiring photographer that everyone can enjoy. It is perfect for any situation. I own & use several different cameras from SLR's to point & shoots, this one I have with me at all times. Read more Less

    Will have to keep it....

    By prime_vi  Dec 23, 2007

    Pros: Image quality

    Cons: Low light AF

Have 2 cameras in possession after I got this one for over 2.1 years. Was about to scrap it BUT suddenly realized it make better quality pictures that modern compacts that I had a chance to use and test. Had to reconsider my initial decision and keep... using it for outdoors use. Probably 1/1.8 size sensor and no NR other than in Night Mode is the key. They do not make big-sized sensors for 7 mpix compacts nowadays... . Read more Less

great for its time but lagging behind today

    By jeanette  Apr 15, 2007

    Pros: image quality is superb

    Cons: shutter lag is baaaaad!

the image quality cannot be faulted for this little compact. There is no IS as with current compacts or VR or any other help. Good shots really are down to the skill of the photographer rather than on 'gimmicks'. It doesnt make you lazy that&...#39;s for sure! You need to know when and how. Unless you go for Photoshop manipulations, enhancements, corrections, etc. I dont have Photoshop or any similar software, so my pics using this camera are 'as shot'. The different scene modes are okayish but night shots are poor whatever the claims. Macro, when it stops trying to focus is very very good. Obviousl DoF is lacking being a now older compact camera. Alkaline AA's last little more than 2 hours and can work out really expensive. I keep spare rechargeables which really keep the cost down. In emergencies as back up the lithium batteries cost more but last a long time. Camera seems to work faster and more efficiently with these too. If you dont mind having abit of patience taking the right shot or just keep shooting (using bss, rest can be deleted later) then the picture quality is one of the best i've seen. When you get it right it's quite stunning. If you want spoon feeding with all the stuff available today on later models or other brands then it's not for you. Read more Less

    an okay camera

    By anav  Dec 14, 2006

Pros: lightweight, many features, and good image quality

Cons: shutter lag, images are not very sharp

i've owned this camera for about 7 months now and its perfect if you just want a camera for snapshots. in good lighting, the images are very clear and bright but in low to little lighting, you must hold the camera perftly still (dont even breathe...) in order to get a clear picture. even with a tripod, i notice that low-lighting shots are not very sharp. i absolutely LOATHE the flash on this camera. it has a long reset time (about 5 seconds) and it only catches what is directly in front of it. if you try to photogrpah something across the room, say 5-6 feet away, it wont look as good. i love using this camera in the daytime (when no flash is needed) and like all the features it offers. movie mode is also decent but in low lighting its pretty grainy, of course. this camera uses 2 AA batteries which is very convenient and my rechargable batteries last a pretty long time. i'm very happy with the macro-close up as well, it works very good.
