Director/writer Nicholas Meyer began his movie career in Hollywood's equivalent to the mailroom: a studio publicity department. After helping to promote Paramount's late-1960s product, Meyer took a job as a Warner Bros. story editor. He parlayed a lifelong fascination with Sherlock Holmes into his 1974 novel ">Time After Time, a Holmesian time-travel adventure which pitted H. G. Wells against Jack the Ripper.
