Pro Reviews: New Orleans Ragtime

  • All Music Guide

Burt Bales, a superior trad jazz pianist best-known for his associations with Turk Murphy and Bob Scobey, did not record enough during his career. This Euphonic LP helped fill the gap a bit. The set of solos leans heavily on Jelly Roll Morton with some Scott Joplin and early jazz classics also included. Lovers of pre-bop piano will enjoy this hard-to-find album.
