Pro Reviews: New Orleans Jamboree

  • All Music Guide

This hard-to-find LP showcases drummer Paul Barbarin's excellent New Orleans jazz group of the 1950s, a band featuring trumpeter John Brunious, trombonist Bobby Thomas, clarinetist Willie Humphrey and Danny Barker on banjo. They romp on such tunes as "Gettysburg March," "Tiger Rag," "L'il Liza Jane" and "The Second Line," not to mention "The Saints." This set is long overdue to be reissued.
