Pros: Def different, hes on a whole new level

Cons: If you don't have an eclectic taste for music this isn't an album for you

This album is very versatile. It’s a fusion of Rap and Roll. The over all album is truly a masterpiece.

    About Time!!!

By Christopher  Oct 21, 2004 | 2 out of 2 found this New Danger review helpful

    Pros: Lyrics, song concepts, creativity.

Cons: too much Black Jack Johnson

Mighty Mos' new joint took too long to come out, but it's creativity makes up for it. My fav. song is the one dedicated to Marvin Gaye, you'll know it when you hear it. Kayne gave him a typical Kayne beat on "Sunshine", most o...f the other tracks on the album are a collaberation with a group called Black Jack Johnson. While it was hot for a few songs, I just didn't want to hear funk/jazz/blues on every song. Picky me. Anyway, one of the hottest albums I have bought in a while... was actualy going to pick up Talib's album, but saw this instead (sorry Talib, i'll get yours when i get my paycheck on monday). Pro Reviews: New Danger

When it takes you five years to follow up a debut of nearlandmark stature, you're setting yourself up for failure. Mos Def's second solo album is not disastrous, but it's a sprawling, overambitious mess. A handful of songs from this 75minute affair feature Black Jack Johnson, the rock band Mos set up with some very respected musicians: bassist Doug Wimbish (Sugar Hill house band, Living Colour), drummer Will Calhoun (Living Colour), guitarist Dr. Know (Bad Brains) and keyboardist Bernie Worrell (Parliament/Funkadelic). Unsurprisingly, the hottest moments tend to come when Mos sticks to what he does best. One slight exception to this is "Modern Marvel," a nineminute suite smeared with a series of Marvin Gaye samples. Mos sings in whispers (he makes Pharrell sound like Luther, but he has the required spirit), momentum floats in as easy as a light breeze, and then the MC shifts into goosepimpleraising mode. Throughout the whole thing, his conviction is apparent. - Andy Kellman, All Music ...Guide Read more Less

Mos Def

Initially regarded as one of hip-hop's most promising newcomers in the late '90s, Mos Def expanded his reach in the years to come, establishing himself as a serious actor and also making a bid to reshape the rap-rock genre. His artistic career began in the late '80s as a television actor, a profession he began directly out of high school. By the mid-'90s though, Mos Def... Read more
