    What happened?

Brandy has great singles but someone jacked her on this album. I love Brandy for her many talents, including her voice but what happened here. I simply bought the album because it was Brandy's second project. She needs to get with a new writing crew.... Eventhough she has many other great talents, a great voice is a terrible thing to waste. Brandy's Masterpiece Never Say Never

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 30, 2007

    Pros: The whole album

    Cons: The album ended

From start to finish, this album is amazing. Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably biased against Brandy as a person. Critically acclaimed by both critics and fans, Brandy's second album, Never Say Never, is groundbreaking and exceptional to sa...y the least. Want a refreshing, non-repetatant, beautiful R&B album you can keep on repeat and not tire of? This is the album for you. I listened to mine so much it got scratched up and I'm going to buy another copy as soon as possible. Another bonus is that there is no profanity or provokative language on this album. It is classy yet funky throughtout the whole thing. Props to Brandy and Rodney Jerkins for this passionate soulful album. 1-Intro 2- Angel In Disguise- This song will be an immediate favorite, with a faster paced beat, and Brandy singing about an issue most women face. The end is also a bonus "when my tears drop and when the rain ends, my heart will beat again" I love the lyrics and the way she sings over the beat 10/10 3-Boy Is Mine- Great duet with Monica that most everyone remembers. 9.5/10 4-Learn The Hard Way- "It's a shame you had ta learn the hard way/Now I have to take my love away/See I could've made it easy/For you to become a part of me" Seriously these songs can make you cry they are easy to relate to and you can tell how sincerely Brandy is singing from the heart. 10/10 5-Almost Doesn't Count-This is another one of my favorites, it touches my heart every time I hear it. "What was always missin for you baby you found it in me" 10/10 6-Top Of The World-Mase is featured here, and even with a rapper and more hip-hoppish beat Miss Brandy still sounds exceptionally well. 10/10 7-You Don't Love Me (Like U Used to)- This beat certainly has some real kick to it and Brandy sings over it with her signature syrupy sweet voice but with more of an edge. 10/10 8-Never Say Never-Another instant favorite. The lyrics and the melody blended together is absolutely fabulous. This is an all time high for Brandy. 10/10 9-Truthfully-This song is perfect to slow dance to. But it's not boring. It had to grow on me at first but now I really love this song, though not the best on the album "trutfully/even if you don't believe/you will always hear the truth come from me" 9.5/10 10-Have You Ever-Beautiful song with lyrics everyone can definetly relate to. 10/10 11-Put That On Everything- The beat is slow tempo and Brandy's voice is on point. "I would go to the end of the earth just to see you, yes it's true" Something about Brandy's voice is so genuine you've got to love these songs. 12-Interlude 13-Happy-Faster song and prior hit when album was first released. I love this song because it's very simple and easy to sing to. Very real and up tempo. 14-One Voice-More of a gospel type song, very good and differentiated from other songs on the album. 10/10 15-Tomorrow-This song may make you cry when you hear it. It's very heart touching yet sad at the same time. You can almost feel Brandy's pain. 10/10 16-Everything I Do (I Do It For U)- The first thing I thought of when I heard this was this could be a beautiful wedding song. It's very soothing love song. *In short, NSN is a classic album with beautiful lyrics and completely relatable songs. If you are contemplating getting it you really should pick it up, you will not be disappointed. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Never Say Never

  • All Music Guide

Shortly after the release of her eponymous debut in 1995, Brandy became a star. Not only did the album sell well, but she starred on UPN's Moesha and Disney's made-for-TV Cinderella, all before she released her second album, Never Say Never, in 1998. Needless to say, there was much more riding on the second record than the debut and, fortunately, she follows through with Never Say Never, delivering an album that rivals her first. Brandy wisely decides to find a middle ground between Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige -- it's adult contemporary with a slight streetwise edge. As with most adult contemporary albums, the record is bogged down by some filler, but Brandy's delivery has improved and her subdued vocals can make mediocre material sound convincing. Still, what make Never Say Never a winning record are quality songs and production. The smooth Monica duet "The Boy Is Mine" and the tripped-out "Top of the World" (which features a rap from Mase) are two examples of what Brandy can achie...ve when everything's in the right place, and they help make Never Say Never a better, more adventurous record than her debut. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less
