Neurotica have the distinction of being the first rock group to sign to the WWF's own music label, Smackdown Records. Being backed by one of the corporate giants in the business climate of the early 21st century is certainly a positive, yet Neurotica don't follow through with an outstanding musical approach. Spattered throughout the eleven tracks offered on their self-titled debut is a myriad of obvious influences, from metal gurus Guns n' Roses to artsy revolutionaries Faith No More to seminal grunge rockers Alice in Chains, yet never does Neurotica ever manage to impress you based on their own true vision. They nearly succeed with the album opener "Ride of Your Life" but then lose sight of their musical vision, relying on tricks that elevated many in the late 80's and early 90's. This is not to say that Neurotica are a terrible band, much of this album is easy to digest and fits in comfortably with the mainstream, yet nothing surprises the listener either. Other noteworthy cuts inclu...de "All My Friends Crush You" and "Living in Dog Years" yet for the most part, Neurotica have delivered an album that is easily forgotten. - Jason D.
