Synopsis: Network (1976)

Howard Beale, the dean of newscasters at the United Television Network, is put out to pasture because he too old. Network executive Max Schumacher, Howard's best friend, is forced to deliver the bad news.     Good movie about TV as big brother. If you hate the TV, just remember the # of witch burnings, public hangings and religious inquistions are way down...

    Where can you find a film that speaks to subjects as far reaching as spirituality, infidelity, raising ones moral standards, mid-life crisis, insanity, and big-brother businesses that control what we see, hear, and even belive. The dialog...sharp, w...itty, acidic, hilarious, dramatic, unforgettable. The acting...superstar turns by almost the entire cast, (Finch, Holden, Dunaway, Duvall, Beatty, etc.) The film challenges us that the Boob Tube has become a national religion, and that the media controls and shapes our lives, and that ANYTHING will be done for good ratings. In the age of Y2K media hysteria, professional wrestling, and lurid T.V. newsmagazines and talk shows, this movie still hold weight and relevance. Read more Less
