Neil Young - On The Beach (1974)

When it came to following-up the HARVEST album that catapulted Neil Young to stardom, he delivered this deceptively mellow, downbeat effort after his label rejected the harrowing TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT album (which was finally released in 1975). Although confusing fans upon its initial release, the album was subsequently reappraised by critics, and became known as something of a lost classic for many years, largely due to Young's refusal to release it on CD. In 2003 he relented, releasing the record on conventional CD, as well as on this stunning DVD-Audio disc. The songs range widely in their themes, from the deeply personal to outright political. Rightly hailed as a classic, ON THE BEACH features tracks such as "Ambulance Blues," "For the Turnstiles," and "Motion Pictures," which are perfectly suited to the DVD-Audio format.
