CD 400, the latest product in Nakamichi's line of In-Car Entertainment System, received a Design and Engineering Showcase Award at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show. This revolutionary head unit represents a radical departure from the industry norm as it delivers true audiophile sound quality, available for the first time from Nakamichi at an affordable price.

The CD 400 incorporates state-of-the-art 24-bit digital-to-analog converters, an advanced technology application unheard of before in the mid-price range. The result - audibly superior musical reproduction!

To complement the ultimate in digital-to-analog conversion accuracy, a high-resolution preamplifier circuit topology was developed to achieve ultra low-noise and distortion levels and a highly linear signal transmission to the powerful and dynamic 47W x 4 channel power amplifier. Additionally triple-band tone controls - a Nakamichi tradition - are included to allow for fine-tuning the bass, midrange and high frequency ranges. This is essential for the corrective compensation of the poor acoustics in automobile interiors or source program material.

The unit's extraordinary mechanics and electronics are combined with an equally refined cosmetic design. Understated, yet sophisticated the CD 400 will grace the dashboard of any automobile. The color of the front panel illumination is user-selectable to best match the color scheme of the automobile's dash. On the LCD display, green or amber is selectable as are the unit's illuminated push buttons, allowing for four different color combinations.

    Pros: sound

Cons: CD transport skips all the time, cheap AUX & SUB wiring

Nakamichi once meant quality, now their company has gone commercial and churning out junk like the rest. A few months after I purchased this unit (brand new) it started skipping, and now a few years later the CD transport is useless. They have the W...ORST service support, having their customers wait endlessly as they connect you from one recorded voice to another. They have a list of service centers, however when you call them they will tell you Nak is no longer supplying service parts or manuals. It sounds great (when it doesnt skip)I have contacted Nakamichi about these issues however they don't seem to care. I digitally master audio for a living, and an avid audiophile. Go with SONY!, they have more experience with CD transports and they don't skip when you make a sharp turn. Read more Less
