NBA Jam 99 Game Boy Color

NBA Jam fans can also expect power-ups and hot spots to appear at random times on the court. Each power-up temporarily increases a player's ratings in one of the eight areas, while a "hot spot" adds a certain number of points to the shot if a player scores while standing on a circular marker. A turbo button lets players perform wild dunks or superhuman blocks when combined with the buttons on offense or defense.

Play is divided into four quarters of three minutes each and substitutions are permitted at the end of each quarter to rest fatiguing players. Players can also substitute after calling a timeout, but only one timeout is allowed per quarter. As in previous games in the series, players can "catch fire" to improve their accuracy and performance. To catch fire, players must shoot three baskets in a row before the opposition scores.

Season Game has players trying to beat the remaining 28 teams. A password provided at the end of each game tracks winning percentage, ranking, and overall record. Head-to-Head mode consists of a single game, while Playoffs involve vying for the championship as one of 16 qualifying teams. NBA Jam 99 also includes a Practice mode to work on dunks, passing, or timing, and allows players to customize several areas of gameplay. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
