After solving the mysteries of Myst and Riven: The Sequel to Myst, the universe was seemingly brought into a state of peace. Unfortunately, the newfound harmony would only last so long. An enraged individual is seeking out vengeance on Sirrus and Achenar, the two men responsible for destroying his homeland. After their demise, he's planning on punishing Atrus and his family members for their insolence.

As a lone adventurer, you must prevent these events from happening and restore order to the once peaceful world. In Myst III: Exile, you'll explore five mysterious worlds filled with lavish gardens, ancient ruins, and complex facilities. Each period also shares common links with the main story line. Yet instead of using a static point-and-click navigational system to go from point A to point B, Presto Studios has revamped the moving process with a 360-degree rotational engine wrapped around rendered 3D environments.

Environments are laced with puzzles and interactive objects. While some puzzles focus on logic, others require deciphering in solving visual teasers and arrangements. When the solution isn't readily apparent, you can search out clues hidden throughout the current settings. Hints are also sporadically placed on the official website at /www.myst3.com. Solving puzzles advances the story line and positions you one step closer to preventing the villain's diabolical plans. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide

    Response to other review.

By Bready  Mar 30, 2003 | 1 out of 1 found this Myst III: Exile review helpful

I thought this game had genuine depth and enlarged both the Myst legacy and its symbology, by a quantumn leap. I did not know what, precisely, to expect from this game when first I bought it, but it has borne the fruits of rapturous adventure and a d...ouble-, if not triple-, dose of the visceral feelings of fanatasy and enchantment laid forth in Riven, and its noble predecessor, Myst. I should, and would, recommend this game (for it is no mere game, but an illusory sojourn into alternate space and time) to anyone fascinated by the genre, to all who love and are challenged by intellectual puzzles, and certainly to those who are avid fans, or just plain familair with, the Myst legacy as a whole. And speaking of those same puzzles, Exile is not for the timid of intellect. The environment is far simpler to navigate thanks to 3D technologies, but the inside puzzles are not easy, a woefully misguided attempt by dissenters to smear the interity of the game (most probably hoping to dash the high sales margins. Those who have journeyed into Myst and Riven will understand me. It lives up to its rite. It is fatansy/adventure of the highest caliber, a 3D paragon of virtual astonishment, and filled with such glorious puzzles whose mystique and intrique lend the splendor of Riven itself to the relative dark ages. My only remark against the game is this: The characters are slightly less large than I expected. I was hoping for more depth of emotion in them. Still, the portrayals were very like Katherine of Riven, and that is good. All said, Exile is phenomenal. Purchase this game. Purchase this game. PURCHASE THIS GAME. Read more Less

    The other persons review...

    By J  Mar 30, 2003

To grf1810@yahoo.com who wrote the following review sentences:“i gonna sell this sh*t tomorrowdont let this game waste your time”………………………Â
…Â….I read this astonishingly brilliant review of the Cyan adventure puzzle-game, Myst III: Exile. I... have written many, many articles, journal notations, and even game reviews that claim to have inside knowledge of a games worthiness. But your lucid, cogent observations really caught my mind. I was so very impressed by your words, I simply had to share it others. We took our time reading itÂ…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â… Of your reviewÂ’s many impressive aspects, the one feature that most appealed to me was your apparently adamant refusal to use ‘amÂ’. Many other, less worthy and less educated users of computers—and English— would have settled for “I am gonna sell this game...” or perhaps even the perfunctory “IÂ’m”. In all manner of dignity, you jumped over the garish, superfluous function of “am”, and at once transported your readers to the very heart of the matter. Only you grasp that the very concept of the first person present indicative of the verb be is so haphazard as to have practically no meaning. The superior life form that you are simply cannot be bound by such a whimsical, man-made restrictionÂ…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…
Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…I can imagine how hard it must be for a person of your depth and literary composure to live in a world inhabited by us conformists. Like robots, we mechanically follow the rules and write however we are told. But not you. Your frivolous, rapid, pot-smoked mind sees flexibility and possibility where the rest of us see only boundariesÂ…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â
…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…...Your concise and illuminating turns of phrase cut straight to the heart of the matter. Self-expression found a new spokesperson on the day you wrote that review on your Macintosh keyboard and pressed “enter” with the opposable thumb of your footÂ…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â
…... Many adults and children could learn so much from the level of selflessness and munificence that it took you to mold your 2-lined review, and I count my feeble brain, and the brains of my pathetically inept colleagues, lucky for having absorbed the content of your review. Thanks to your insight, I finally realize that I have wasted my life and will now dedicate myself to enlightening my fellow man, such as you have doneÂ…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â…Â
…Â…...Accordingly, I hereby vow I will always write reviews in your style, and possibly all proceeding articles. I shall shout such a review from the rooftops. All this in my foppish attempts to emulate your brilliance. I gonna do it tomorrow.
