My Super Ex-Girlfriend - Superman in a Skirt
Pros: flying girl throws a SHARK at ex-boyfriend
Cons: boring, insipid, obviously masquerading as a "new" approach to the Superman genre
When I watched the previews for this movie, I thought it would be pretty hilarious. I was WRONG. The only truly funny thing is when Uma Thurmas throws a SHARK at Luke Wilson - through the window of a high rise building.
Most of the story is not only lacking momentum but imagination and novelty. Clearly molded on the original Superman character (Uma Thurman is "G Girl", an ordinary girl turned superhero after coming into contact with a "strange" rock from another planet...oooooh spoooky! NOT), the movie limps through barely over an hour's worth of strained and forced comedy before collapsing in a feminist rendition of a happy ending (the guys remain "normal" while their girlfriends save the world).
Maybe next time the people who made this sad, sad, SAD movie could leave the socio-political content to someone who knows what their doing. All in all, a pretty BAD movie.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoMy Super Ex-Girlfriend
Pros: Funny. Good cast.
Cons: Story not very deep but the comedy makes up for any shortcomings.
Uma Thurman stars as a super heroine who turns her super powers against the guy (Luke Wilson) who dumped her. This is by veteran comedy director Ivan Reitman (Stripes, Meatballs). I didn't expect much from this movie going in but I found my self laughing my way through it. Anna Faris, Eddie Izzard, and Wanda Sykes co-stars. I really like this movie a lot and will be adding it to my film library.
