This movie is enjoyable in that it provides a glimpse into the insecurities of "frumpy" women, from the perspective of a Greek woman who has had to grow up in the closed society of a large ethnic family.
It is 5 stars on realism and the quality of the story, and while it is generally entertaining, it never made me laugh out loud.

Very disappointing as I don't recall laughing throughout a movie billed as a "romantic comedy".
The movie might have been funny to a 6th grader. Characters were over acted (ie. the groom's parents) and the story line was just too unbelievable. Yes, I know, even for a "romantic comedy".
When you try to get laughs with comedy bits like a zit on your face on your wedding day and falling over when you have a head set plugged into the phone, you begin to realize that the writting is no better than any episode of "Three's Company". However, you can forgive "Three's Compay" because it was only 30 minutes. To dillute the same amount of comedy into a 90 minute movie is a crime.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoThis was so funny!
I absolutley loved this movie! The whole scenario was so funny! The parents, Toula, Ian and the whole group of family and friends kept me holding my stomach with laughter the entire time!

This movie was recommended to me and I have inturn recommended it so many times I can't count them. I and my husband saw the movie at the theater 4 times and he bought the DVD the first day it was out. I will be purchasing copies for my three sisters and mother!!! No family should be without this great movie. I hope the TV version will be as great a success!!!

This movie will become a classic in that it appeals to the the roots of All Americans --- especially those that have knowledge of, even if not first-hand, either growing up in an ethnic family that retains its roots and traditions or to anyone that has dated someone with such a strong ethnic family. For those within such a strong ethnic family, it is a story/movie that allows us to laugh at ourselves. For those that have dated someone from, and especially married into, such a family, it brings forth a bit of understanding, and allows us to laugh at ourselves.
The appeal in the United States is great due to the closeness in years that many people can relate to this pull to "melt" and become one in America with that of maintining the roots, and ethnic traditions that the families building this great country have brought with them from throughout the world. Its greatest appeal will be within the United States.
Although the "action" is of a different style, it reminds me of the first "ROCKY" film that was produced, starred, and written by the same person . . . much of the same appeal is found within this "on its way to becoming a classic" movie celebrating the roots, ethnicity, and melding in America. Lower budget than the top-going Hollywood films, the people making it felt as a family and were happy to be part of a greater cause and appeal --- having tremendous fun along its creation. A great Movie! Leaves you with the feeling that you actually have been there - in that chaos of conflicts between culture keeping and going with time. Nothing is unrealistic. The "Love Storie" is not overpowering the theme. Its all about the Family and very funny done, indeed.

It's packed with hilarious scenes, which make you wish that the film would never end.
