    Classic Album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 3, 2006

    Pros: technical virtuosity

    Cons: none

This album displays the musical and technical virtuosity of Rush. Peart's drum work on this album is masterful. Every drummer should own this album. Peart's technical proficiency is dispalyed on such songs as Tom Sawyer, YYZ, and Limelight. R...ush's popularity reached its pinnacle with the release of Moving Pictures in 1981. Moving Pictures essentially continued where Permanent Waves left off, extending the trend of highly accessible and commercially friendly pop-progressive rock that helped thrust them into the spotlight. The lead track, "Tom Sawyer", is probably the band's best known song, while "Limelight" also received satisfactory responses from listeners and radio stations. Furthermore, Moving Pictures was the very last album to feature an extended song, the 10-and-a-half-minute "The Camera Eye". Incidentally, the song also possessed the band's heaviest usage of keyboards and synthesizers up to that point hinting that Rush's music was shifting directions once more. Moving Pictures reached #3 on the Billboard 200 album chart and has been certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America Read more Less

    Rush Reach The Masses

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 16, 2006

Pros: Perfect Combination Of Craftsmanship And Musicianship

    Cons: Could Be Longer

'Moving Pictures' was Rush's commercial breakthrough. It's also one of their few critical and artistic successess too.The big hits songs were the classic "Tom Sawyer" and "Limlight"-two tunes about rebellian and the... bands sudden fame, the latter in which getty declares "all the worlds a stage".Both have two of the best hooks in the bands career. And there are no fillers at all-the more compulsive "Witch Hunt" and "Red Barchetta" are tightly wound examples of their jamming instrumental sounds. The best track to me is the amazing "YYZ",a four minute instrumental blend of Rush's prog rock and some band members obvious interest in jazz-rock fusion as Geddy's slapping bass and Neal's lightening speed drumming cultimate in an undeniable rocking funkiness. The elongated "The Camera Eye" has a similar feel along with some terrific lyrics.Another great poppy rocker "Vital Signs" ends the affair making 'Moving Pictures' a deserved classic both for Rush and rock in general. RUSH IS ONE OF FEW TRULY GREAT PROGRESSIVE BANDS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 13, 2005

Pros: A NOTE TO TALKSMAK ABOUT TRUE SOUND

    Cons: NO VINYL APPRECIATION

YES, IT IS TRUE THAT THE COMPACT DISC REMASTERS ARE MUCH HIGHER QUALITY BUT I PERSONALLY ENJOY THE VINTAGE SOUND OF LP'S. IT SOUNDS MUCH WARMER AND MUCH MORE AUTHENTIC FOR THE MUSIC'S ERA. THAT'S WHY I OWN THIS ON THE MERCURY LABEL WITH A... TOTALLY TRASHED COVER BUT EXCELLENT VINYL RECORD THAT PLAYS SPLENDIDLY. IT WAS 25 CENTS AT A GARAGE SALE. Read more Less

True, Ludwig did a great job on the Rush ReMasters but Mobile Fidelity has always produced a great sound. This CD is no exception. Keep in mind people, your stereo equipment has a lot to do with the sound you hear!!!

    For Audiophiles only!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 13, 2000

As reviewed previously as "unnessary", this Limited Edition release comes only available in 24K Gold, and manufactured using the original master recordings before "pressing" and releasing this title. Though it may not be your typical CD, this CD may... just be left for collectors and audiophiles. The 24K disc gives added "reflective" strength to a CD players lazer, thus giving an improved crisp clean playback to the listener. Read more Less

    Don't waste your money

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 31, 1999 | 0 out of 1 found this Moving Pictures (Remastered) review helpful

The new Mercury "Rush Remasters" series makes this and all of Mobile Fidelity's Gold Discs unnecessary (and inferior). You can't beat Bob Ludwig for remastering, 24 karat gold or not.
