One of the Best Films Ever

This is one of my favorite all time movies, Baz Zuhmermann is one of the best directors on earth in my opinon, there is nothing not to love about this movie, the song and script are great, all the actors give a great performance

I have now seen Moulin Rouge more times than I should say and I have noticed something new and unique every time. This film is so intricate (and beautiful) that you cannot possibly absorb it all in one viewing. Luhrman (along with his Bazmark production team) really is a visionary and his films push the limits in such amazing ways. The music, the sets, the choreography - all of it is awe-inspiring. Ewan McGregor proves his versatility as an actor yet again by bringing such a heartfelt innocence to Christian - and the man can sing! Nicole Kidman went from being just another actress to me to one of my favorites - she takes on the role of Satine so honestly and proves that she not only has a comedic side but a great voice as well. Together the two of them light up the screen. In a year of mostly mediocre films (with a few notable exceptions) Moulin Rouge is totally refreshing. It not only promotes truth, beauty, freedom, and love but is a perfect example of them as well. Luhrman himself said that it was time for a new kind of storytelling and he was right! Open your mind and enjoy one of the most original movie experiences in years. A bohemian storm is brewing!

Cons: A little inappropriate for the WHOLE family.
This movie was so excellent! The use of color and texture makes this movie fun to watch even with the mute button on, but the incredible music and the suprisingly melodious voices of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor make keeping it turned down a crime. The theme is a little grown up though, so keep the kiddies out of the room. A must-see for all folks 13 and over.

The story is about a young writer who travels to Paris in 1899. The movie begins with a brief explaination and we are immediately plunged into the artsy world of the Bohemian revolution. Christian (McGregor) is asked to help write a musical for the famous Moulin Rouge. His love-lorn character is then introduced to the beautiful Kidman who mistakes him for a rich and powerful Duke.
The best part of the movie, other than the music, is the plot. The plot is mirrored in the musical written by Christian and in a weird sense the whole movie is foreshadowed by his writing.
I've seen this movie about 30 times now and it is my favorite which is why I chose it for my first review on Yahoo. I highly recommend this movie to all my friends and family and anyone reading this.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoBohemian Rhapsody

"La Belle Epoche", late 1800's France - how do you convey the most explosive era in art, music and literature since the Renaissance in modern terms as a musical? You use highly successful modern music in a period setting, of course - and this is what most viewers found the most difficult thing to overcome in "Moulin Rouge". Think about it - if the producers had used music from that era, how well do you think the audience would relate to and *believe* how "hot" these artists and performers actually were? Some of the most popular love songs of the last two decades were used to illustrate this visually lavish, costume-heavy production, and for the most part they work beautifully. My only regret, not being an Elton John fan, was the heavy repetition of EJ's hits... nonetheless "Moulin Rouge" will bump your grind, tickle your funny bone, and tug at your heartstrings. The additional features on the DVD are worth watching - click on the "green fairy" and you'll see what I mean!

I'm into musicals, drama, romance, this is the perfect movie. It has been said that the music is innacurate, but I do believe that was done on purpose....it just fits. LOVE this movie!!!
