Not Worth The Hype, but still a good phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 19, 2004 | 40 out of 47 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

Pros: Great cool look; good reception; mp3 music sounds good; number of features such as recording movie clips

Cons: bad deign flaw on front w/ scratches across above camera; restrictions on downloading wallpaper and ringtones-- can't use Internet, only Verizon's Get It Now; number of Bluetooth traits crippled; camera is poor quality

I was looking forward to this phone and do enjoy it, but it does have several imperfections that proves it wasn't worth all the hype. The good-- beautiful phone with a cool design. It has 2 screens and a number of features. The reception quality i...s great, which is what Verizon prides itself on having the best reception. The bad. I am amazed at a design flaw Motorola created not only with this phone, but the v600. On the top of the front screen cover, right above th camera "lens", there is a series of scratches that develop and extend across the black plastic. This results when the phone is opened. In less than a month that area is bad-- I can imagine how it will look in a year. Also, Verizon restricts you to its own Get It Now for wallpaper and ringtones, instead of allowing you to use the Internet and other companies. While you can receive these through VZW Pix, the photos come through horrible. Speaking ofhorrible, the camera and video quality is just that. The phone is a jut slightly too big and has an interesting keyboard. The internal display scratches easily, another Motorola flaw that it also has with the v600. And there are a number of front display backgrounds-- except they are restricted to the color you choose to highlight words on your display. For example, you need to choose Midnight color sheme to get a cool looking front display background. if you want Solar as your color style, you are forced to an ugly light colored display of paperclip looking objects.Cingular's v600 gives you more freedom to set up things as you like them, an I feel Verizon forces you to like what they give you and retrict what you can do. Despite that, this is a great looking phone with a number of perks and features that you should enjoy-- as long as you don't expect the perfection this phone was built up to be. Read more Less

    Not a bad phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 22, 2005 | 9 out of 9 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

Pros: Bluetooth, large display, style, reception

Cons: Expensive, Initial release poor, photo quality

I must be lucky or you review posters are a bunch of babies. I have no scratches (except for impact from my dropping), not cracking keys. I like the larger size, it fits into my hand better. I have ave sized, maybe even small, hands and the smaller p...hones slip right out. It could have some rubberized surface to reduce slippage, the phone looks great, but the materials are all very slippery. My "phone" problems were (bought phone 12/10/05): 1. Bluetooth did not display power and reception meters on my car display 2. The outside display is poor at displaying the photo ID's, they are very dark. 3. The camera has horrible "noise" on indoor pics. 4. Photo manipulation "deleting" takes forever 5. Poor ring options 6. Price...but I wanted bluetooth for my car After Firmware upgrade 2/20/05: 1. Bluetooth interface reports info correctly to car 2. Outside display still bad for photos 3. Camera takes much better pics 4. Photo manipulation is instantaneous 5. Poor Ring options Just 2 and 5 are still annoying, but no big deal. Read more Less

Don't Buy This Phone Whatever You Do

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 5, 2004 | 3 out of 5 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

Pros: Good Reception, Good Sound Quality

Cons: Bluetooth Doesn't Work, Poor Camera, Poor Ergonomics

I looked forward to buying the V710 for a long time. The two things I wanted most were the 1.2 megapixel camera and the ability to transfer data between my PC and the V710 via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth data connectivity doesn't work, plain and sim...ple. Motorola responded to a question I had about it via email back in August that, "A solution will be available by November 2004." They responded to a second email in early November, "...the fix to support wireless connectivity with your phone is going to be available before the end of the year..." Well, Motorola, we're running out of year and you still have no solution.Forget about using the camera indoors. It's a pathetic excuse for a camera because it doesn't deal well with low light conditions. There are many other features that make this telephone bad. For example, the keys scratch the display. The telephone beeps when the battery is going low, even if you have the sound turned OFF. Motorola permanently stored stupid graphics in memory that you can't delete. The keys are not evenly illuminated. The keys are laid out poorly so that it's easy to mistype numbers. The list goes on and on. The more I use this telephone, the more I hate it. For the high price, you should get a telephone that you love to use that has all of the features working the way they're advertised. Read more Less

Pros: the best reception compared to any other phone

    Cons: camera qulaity terrible

This phone gets the best reception I have ever seen especially compared to ohter verizon phones. I will have reception when no other verizon customer will around me. The camera however is the worst motorola makes the worst camera ever. The quality is... terrible and can't hardly see any pictures. however the zoom on the camera is very good. Read more Less

    V710- a big disappointment!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 11, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

Pros: Nice looking, good features [if only they would work right].

Cons: Within days the key pad cover begins to pouch and warp. Camera picture quality isn't very good on either dispalay screen.

Should have known that there were still major problems with the V710 when the store display model's key pad started warping and bowing / pouching up after only two days on display for customers to handle and test. The strip around the d-ring / OK... button started curving up at the edges and coming off and the entire key pad cover started pouching up approximately an 1/8th of an inch above the surface of the key buttons underneath. The picture quality was very poor- even on the inside main screen, which is advertised as being of such "High Quality"- it isn't. Have not tried down loading the pics to computer yet- so don't know if the pic quality is any better when saved to PC. Instead of being sold for the several hundred dollors it is now, it needs to be a 1 cent / penny special if you sign a two week contract- about all its really worth. Read more Less

Not a bad phone, but excellent either

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 21, 2004 | 1 out of 1 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

    Pros: Looks, screen.

Cons: Buttons look cheap, and camera sucks.

Nice looking phone, very contemporary. Nice large color screen. What dissapoints me is that the buttons look like after not long usage of it, it'll break. Also the camera sucks, its decent ouside, but I've seen cheaper phones that take bet...ter pictures inside and outside. Read more Less
