Not Worth The Hype, but still a good phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 19, 2004 | 40 out of 47 found this Motorola V710 review helpful

Pros: Great cool look; good reception; mp3 music sounds good; number of features such as recording movie clips

Cons: bad deign flaw on front w/ scratches across above camera; restrictions on downloading wallpaper and ringtones-- can't use Internet, only Verizon's Get It Now; number of Bluetooth traits crippled; camera is poor quality

I was looking forward to this phone and do enjoy it, but it does have several imperfections that proves it wasn't worth all the hype. The good-- beautiful phone with a cool design. It has 2 screens and a number of features. The reception quality i...s great, which is what Verizon prides itself on having the best reception. The bad. I am amazed at a design flaw Motorola created not only with this phone, but the v600. On the top of the front screen cover, right above th camera "lens", there is a series of scratches that develop and extend across the black plastic. This results when the phone is opened. In less than a month that area is bad-- I can imagine how it will look in a year. Also, Verizon restricts you to its own Get It Now for wallpaper and ringtones, instead of allowing you to use the Internet and other companies. While you can receive these through VZW Pix, the photos come through horrible. Speaking ofhorrible, the camera and video quality is just that. The phone is a jut slightly too big and has an interesting keyboard. The internal display scratches easily, another Motorola flaw that it also has with the v600. And there are a number of front display backgrounds-- except they are restricted to the color you choose to highlight words on your display. For example, you need to choose Midnight color sheme to get a cool looking front display background. if you want Solar as your color style, you are forced to an ugly light colored display of paperclip looking objects.Cingular's v600 gives you more freedom to set up things as you like them, an I feel Verizon forces you to like what they give you and retrict what you can do. Despite that, this is a great looking phone with a number of perks and features that you should enjoy-- as long as you don't expect the perfection this phone was built up to be. Read more Less

    Not a bad phone

Pros: Bluetooth, large display, style, reception

Cons: Expensive, Initial release poor, photo quality

I must be lucky or you review posters are a bunch of babies. I have no scratches (except for impact from my dropping), not cracking keys. I like the larger size, it fits into my hand better. I have ave sized, maybe even small, hands and the smaller p...hones slip right out. It could have some rubberized surface to reduce slippage, the phone looks great, but the materials are all very slippery. My "phone" problems were (bought phone 12/10/05): 1. Bluetooth did not display power and reception meters on my car display 2. The outside display is poor at displaying the photo ID's, they are very dark. 3. The camera has horrible "noise" on indoor pics. 4. Photo manipulation "deleting" takes forever 5. Poor ring options 6. Price...but I wanted bluetooth for my car After Firmware upgrade 2/20/05: 1. Bluetooth interface reports info correctly to car 2. Outside display still bad for photos 3. Camera takes much better pics 4. Photo manipulation is instantaneous 5. Poor Ring options Just 2 and 5 are still annoying, but no big deal. Read more Less
