Fantastic new music from a great band. Some very unusual sounds along with some classic matchbox twenty sounds. A real gem is So Sad So Lonely, the bonus, unlisted song at the end of track 12. It is awesome!

    Very good

This cd comes up short of their debut album but lacks the shortcomings of madseason. It contains no songs that make you want to move on to the next song unless it is to get to the next great one. The cd overall contains 4-5 great songs, and one in ...particular, number 4 that will rocket to number 1 upon release. Throughout the cd you notice that every song is new and their style continues to change and develop making it a fantastic cd with its only shortcoming being that not every song is a 10 out of 10 but even the bad ones come up as a 6-7 out of 10 making this come in short of their first but ahead of the second. I see about 4 singles coming off of this one and add 2-3 more out of the 12 to the list of personal tastes and it will keep you listening for hours on end... Excellent, what an incredible band. Willie Nelson was right, music is safe as long a people like Rob Thomas carry the torch! Read more Less

Pro Reviews: More Than You Think You Are

  • All Music Guide

The best proof that Matchbox Twenty is not the Rob Thomas project? Their third ablum, More Than You Think You Are. If this was simply the work of Thomas, this album would likely be more like their very fine second album, a savvy mainstream pop record that casually displayed his songwriting skills and was casually eclectic. This? This sounds like the efforts of a band that not only wants to rock again, but feels compelled to rock again, to prove that they are indeed a band. Perhaps this would have worked if they had either a strong set of songs or a sinewy, persuasive production. They have neither. The songs lack hooks, as if melody would be too commercial, while the production has its sights on the radio, resulting in tuneless songs that are polished for mainstream consumption. It's a weird miscalculation, a regression to the faceless post-alternative rock of their debut. It's a shame, really, since as the years since Yourself or Someone Like You have proven that, no matter how dispara...ged they were in 1996, they did this post-alternative mainstream rock better than many bands, because they didn't hesitate to embrace the mainstream. Here, they try for credibility and lose the very things that are their strengths. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Matchbox Twenty

Upon the release of their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You in the fall of 1996, Matchbox Twenty was pigeonholed as one of the legions of post-grunge guitar bands that roamed the American pop scene in the middle of the '90s. As their first single, "Push," climbed the charts, it was widely assumed (at least by cyncial critics) that they were a one-hit wonder, but ... Read more
