Bedsit trip-hop duo Monk Canatella were formed by Simon Russell and Jim Johnston after each had long been involved in the Bristol community (scene-leaders Portishead even dedicated a song to them). They debuted on Cup of Tea Records with 1995's Fly Fishing EP, which gathered good reviews from the British music weeklies and radio DJs.
