Amy Grant/Michael W. Smith/Gary Chapman - Moment in Time

Generously cobilled to Michael W. Smith and Gary Chapman, A Moment in Time is basically a live minialbum by Amy Grant drawn from her 19881989 Lead Me On tour. Tour sponsor Tretorn sneakers marketed it, and the six musical performances are interspersed with interview remarks by Grant, Smith, and Chapman, so this is more of a promotional item than a regular commercial release. That said, it should be of interest to Grant, Smith, and Chapman fans, who will enjoy hearing the three collaborators recall their early meetings and subsequent work together. Chapman and Smith first came into contact with Grant as songwriters; Chapman, of course, married her, while Smith became a member of her band and eventually a successful solo performer in his own right. The three converse easily about their relationship and about the tour, giving way periodically to the songs, drawn mostly from Grant's albums (the exception being Smith's "Friends"), which are played before rapturous audiences in Houston and W...aco, TX. As compared to Grant's two live albums of 1981, this is much more polished performing, but no less affecting for that, and while it is hardly an essential release, it's one Grant fans will enjoy if they can get their hands on it. - William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide Read more Less
