Don't You Give Me the High Hat!

    Pros: Complicated, Beautiful, Masterpiece

Cons: One particular gunfight I found implausible

"Miller's Crossing" is a fantastic movie. During prohibition, two crime families are battling. We follow the #2 man of one as he tries to solve the dispute between the two intellectually inferior crime lords. This is the Coens at their best, dark, funny, easy to watch but oh-so-complex. So many scenes come to mind when I think of this movie. This is the initial appearance of Steve Buscemi, in what would be his typical wacky small role (until "Fargo"). Many other recurring actors seen in later Coen movies also make their first appearance in this. This is a must-see if you're into gangster movies, or art movies.

Why this movie gets so little attention, Ill never know. One of the best in the gangster genre, great story, acting, cinematography, and score make this movie a cant-miss!

A great film - don't miss this masterpie

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2002

This is one has been crafted by the masters - the Coen brothers. The pacing is perfect the cinematography dark and brooding, the acting low key and spot on. It is one of the rare films that I never get tired of watching again and again.

    Outstanding FIlm

My second Coen brothers film but probably my favorite. Great acting, great story, great direction, great music and an incredible cast make this a film for the ages. John Turturro, Gabriel Byrne, John Polito and Albert Finney all excel in their roles. Looking for this in DVD. It is a definite MUST HAVE!

    Amazing and Moving

This film is truly an American Masterpiece. Perhaps the Coen's best film, it details the length and meaning of friendship and as Jon Polito would say, ethics. Byrne's performance is truly remarkable in an ensemble cast of fine performances. If you are in the mood for gritty crime dramas, complicated relationships, or period suspense, this film is a must-see.
