   Pros: Upbeat Music For A Tired Age

   Cons: A Little Long Maybe But I Wouldn't Call That A Con In This Case

   In 1993 one could say Earth Wind & Fire seemed to be entering their twilight years.Only Maurice & Verdine White,Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson remain from the original core linup.It was a proven fact the new jack swing-style music that had covered over R&B like a blanket at that point didn't work for them.Some new jack drum programming worms it's way into some of the songs on 'Millennium' (mostly the uptempo ones) but that still doesn't spoil the great writing and arrangements on "Even If You Wonder","Love Is The Greatest Story" or "The L Word",and with the horns back in the mix and the groove at a premium these are still prime examples of EWF style funk.On the other hand some equally fantastic uptempo songs are included such as the wonderful samba of "Honor The Magic" and the bouncy classic grooves of "Would'nt Change A Thing About You" and the sensuous "Divine" and the spunky "Chi Town Blues".For the most part this CD is noted for it's ballads-"Sunday Morning" is the best known and the big hit but "Blood Brothers","Two Hearts","Spend The Night" and "Love Across The Wire" all follow the same lead and are classic smooth groove Earth Wind And Fire.Prince stops by to write "Superhero",the one major frenetic funk number on this CD.'Millenium' explores issues of universal love,social ills and apathy to the worlds problems and would've been a complete return to their classic sound if not for some of the new jack era drum programming.But overall this was a very good comeback for this wonderful band in the 1990's and there really is no terrible Earth Wind & Fire because their writing,singing and music is always on the top level. ...
