The 1980s pop music scene was flooding with an excess of garbage. Lots of trendy trash covered with obnoxious synthesizers. Many of the better bands hid in the background, doing their own thing like R.E.M. and got their breaks after the crappy sound... of the 80s subsided and listeners wanted to hear music with quality. However, a few bands successfully captured the public eye in the 1980s with a sound that was similar to the pop genre at that point, but was still quality. One of these bands was Mike and the Mechanics. Their debut album was nothing but quality. From the first track to the last track, every single song has a great sound. While some may be dated at this point in time, others still could put up a good fight in modern day music, like Hangin' By A Thread and All I Need Is A Miracle. The dated songs, including Silent Running and Par Avion, are still awesome. The whole album fits together without repetition of sound. There are two must-buy albums from 1985: R.E.M.'s Reconstruction of the Fables and this album by Mike and the Mechanics. Go get it. Read more Less
