Synopsis: Midnight Express (1978)
Synopis: Based on William Hayes's autobiography, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS tells the harrowing story of a young American tourist arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison by Turkish authorities for trying to smuggle two kilos of hashish out of the country. Billy (Brad Davis), suffering through the harsh realities of the Turkish penal system, sees a glimmer of hope when his father (Billy Kellin) arrives from the States with the intention of securing his son's release. But when that effort fails and the prison's savage environment becomes too much to bear, Billy opts for the only possible solution: breaking out of jail and riding the "midnight express"--prison slang for escape--to freedom.Director Alan Parker (MISSISSIPPI BURNING), aided by Oliver Stone's Oscar-winning script, fastens an unflinching gaze into the darkest recesses of physical and emotional cruelty. Supporting cast members Randy Quaid, John Hurt, and Bo Hopkins give stellar performances, and Giorgio Moroder supplies a jagged yet entrancing soundtrack for a film that is at one and the same time a Kafkaesque nightmare, a riveting exposé, and a testament to the dogged human thirst for dignity.Features: Midnight Express (1978)

Cons: Acting
I watched this movie without any expectations and no judgements even though I am a Turkish Cypriot. I thought the acting was not top quality, you could feel the actors were trying to act. Truth or not besides, the story could have turned into a good movie but it didn't in this case. The storyline was bad - nothing that grabs your attention, pretty ordinary classic prison stuff. I also thought it was pretty sad how they could not find people who actually spoke Turkish well!!! I had to listen to the English translations to understand some of the Turkish dialog.
I have heard of this movie for so long and finally got a chance to see it. The only reason I didn't stop it in the middle was because I was curious, otherwise it is a dull one! I got bored and watched "Friends" for a while. And I am not saying this cause I am not objective, I live in the USA and love America as well!
I also thought some of the Turkish bashing was pretty cheap, you would think they could come up with a better dialog - which again links to my view of a poorly produced movie. ...
