User Reviews: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

  1. Big, ungainly, sluggish and heavy-handed

20 of 25 Yahoo! Users found this Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition review helpful Surely a big step back in the world of OS's - Not a matter of getting used to something different, XP just stands in your way and won't move....Been using XP for a week and will revert to 98 as soon as I get my hands on a set of disks because it is invasive, it's bulky, it doesn't seem able to handle large folders well (highly unstable it seems; I've had to break up two folders into five just to not have it crash when I open them) and it's just plain ugly......
This program is made for people who have never used a computer before and can't imagine using one for anything but chatting on AOL. (which Xp would be perfectly fine for, but no grand advance over 98)
Unlike past editions, XP guides you ad nauseum through everything and then restricts the extent to which you can use any program but Microsoft's or a sponsor's.(i.e, double-click a photgraph and it's opened by Windows Picture Viewer regardless of association; to open with anything but you must do so manually) If you ever wondered what the government had against Microsoft, use XP and see firsthand. I can't imagine anyone with a speck of intelligence or human dignity not being insulted by using XP and becoming disgusted with Microsoft as a result.

Microsoft - Windows XP Home review
Even if you're a Microsoft sceptic, Windows XP is impressive. It appears to be more stable than before and adds welcome support for a number of extras, like digital cameras and video. A touch expensive, though, and the upgrade option could lead you down a tedious, time-consuming path. more...
