Pros: Amazing graphics and features, File accesibility is quick and easy
Cons: Somewhat slow, tends to freeze easily
Overall a great computer to use.
Pros: None
Cons: Lots
I purchased a new laptop with 2GB ram the system ran so slow. I just decided to load XP and dump windows Vista until they work out all the bugs!
Pros: it's great, lot of features
Cons: operating system alone takes up a lot of memory
I just bought a laptop with vista home premium preinstalled. I thought I was going to have trouble getting around all the features but it wasn't that hard. Installing my printer wasnt hard either, I just had to get the drivers for Vista and I was good to go.
The interface looks nice, and I like the windows experience index which tells you how your computers hardware and performance stands up to others running the same operating system.
The only thing I don't like is that the operating system alone takes about 600 MB of memory, and I only have 1 Gb, so some features are turned off so the computer's performance doesn't suffer. So I'd recommend having 2 Gb of memory or more if you want to run all the features.
Overall this is a great operating system, it gives you more features that vista home basic along with enhanced security.
Pros: Start search, Sidebar, start menu, IE7, great graphics with Aero, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie maker, Windows Mail, Windows Media Center, overall very easy to use.
Cons: Internet Explorer freezes once in a while.
Windows Vista is very easy to use, the graphics are amazing, Windows Aero really added a lot to the OS, Aero makes Windows Vista 10 times better than it would be without, with features like Flip 3D and transparent windows. The Sidebar is very useful too, the gadgets you can add are endless. The new Start Search is great too, it makes finding a program or file a lot easier. And ReadyBoost⢠also is great, it speeds up your computer a lot without having to buy more memory.
Pros: better handle lager email folder
Cons: many many many
I purchased two PCs with faster CPU and more Memary that have Vista installed. I did not see it is faster tha my old XP home. It does not support PC fax in non business version. You know most PC pre-installed non-business version. The email search have a bug that allow search a work only once.
Any way, I did not see a reason to upgrade to Vista. If I buy another PC, I will ask XP if it is still available.
Pros: will run newer programs
Cons: wont run very old programs
over all i like it and dont say anything to change my mind becuse nothing will
Pros: New, compatible
Cons: Slow, Huge, Klutzy, buggy
Search feature is even harder to use. HP keyboard has extra keys where ctrl and alt used to be that lock up typing, Slower than XP, Even with a faster processor 4800 and faster memory computer has a hard time getting things done. Basic controls have been hidden even deeper. Search is no longer on WinExplore but in start button. New sidebar hogs screen space. Cursor dissapears any time a movie/news plays on screen from your isp. Dissapointed.
The much vaunted watching TV on a PC is worthless. Who wants to watch TV on a 19 inch screen when you can use a regular 32"" with antennae and receive HD? feeding it to 32" screen through computer slow down anything you do on computer to a crawl.
Defragging no longer shows what is going on. But you can continue using computer. IF you do so, you have no idea what defrag is doing as defragging takes 6 hours+.
I recommend going back to XP.
Pros: beauty, sidebar, intuitive, easy
Cons: doesn't make julian fries?
I'm in love. In February, I bought Windows Vista. (See my journal for a screen cap.) The only drawback so far was having to reinstall some programs, and buy PowerDVD so I could make screen caps. On the clock I can view different time zones, I chose here and England (where else?! lol). The side bar is wonderful. You can put dozens of gadgets on it, that do lots of things. I have bubble wrap, minesweeper, a dictionary, Wikipedia search, a Magic 8-ballTM, two radios, WeatherBugTM, notes (currently- an rss feed for my journal and the location of the DMV, previously a short shopping list, "Buy: Coffee, toothpaste, stamps"), and a meter of my RAM and hard disk space. The magnificent wallpaper actually came *with* Windows Vista.
Things are a bit different. I had trouble at first getting to my personal folder I created on the main disk drive (C:/(Arruniel)'s folder).Finding programs is much easier, though. Type in the program name in the Start Menu, and it show the program. No more sorting, organizing, and hunting. My most programs are still there. It's rather intuitive, but 99% of the time in a good way.
The display properties are great. I adore the default theme Aero. You should see the busy mouse symbol. It's so beautiful. A beautiful cursor! The only other one I saw that was even pretty was the rainbow cursor on the Animated mouse cursor screen. This one is so much prettier. Pretty is an insult; it's beautiful.
I had Windows XP Media. I still like Mozilla, and MusicMatch Jukebox, and Thumbs Plus better, but what came with it was great, and quite useful in of itself. I'm just spoilt and used to those programs.
I know Macs have their devotees, but no OS is evil, and no CEO is holy. Mac OS X may have it's fans, but I've fallen in love with Vista. Pink windows and flowers!
Pros: Multimedia and Aero software
Cons: Cannot backup entire hard drive.
If you are a home user with a video card, this is the version to get. You could otherwise save money and get the Home Basic if you don't need the multimedia and graphics advantages of a video card with DirectX 9 or 10 with the minimum requirements of this version. Vista Ultimate will provide you with this version's good stuff plus business software and the ability to backup your entire hard drive. Vista Home Premium has a backup feature too for your files, good luck.
Pros: Quite good
Cons: Too expensive
I think this is a normal-quality operating system! It may be the best OS of Microsoft! However, the quality of this OS is just OK! It costs too much, and isn't as safe as Mac OS or Linux (Mandriva or Ubuntu edition). The only thing that makes me rate 3 stars for this OS is that it's the easiest OS for people to use!
Pros: Much improved interface, more secure and easier to use
Cons: Pricey and drivers aren't available for all products
This is not as bad as many people would like you to believe. I installed Vista Home Premium Upgrade onto my XP MCE computer with absolutely no problems. Everything set up properly except for my HP printer (for some stupid reason HP hasn't got around to putting out drivers yet).
The Aeroglass interface is fantastic, much better than the UGLY XP interface, its cleaner and more sophisticated looking.
The Start Search function is fantastic! Looking for your PowerPoint presentation? All you have to do is type the name of it and XP will find it for you, no need to start opening folders.
There are many new features that are worthy of mention including Outlook replacement Windows Mail, Snipping Tool, Games Menu, and Parental Settings.
The only dislike I had was the UAC which is annoying but after a few days using Vista I got used to it and hardly notice it anymore.
Pros: Clear, less mess, easy to understand
Cons: NOTHING is COMPATable yet!!
I like the Vista and its user friendliness, but I bought a brand new HP with printer and the program disc for my printer isn't compatable with Vista so now I have to figure out how to fix this. Mys Original Sims game messes up, a few games I purchased are not compatable. I get the supposed top of the line and nothing even works with it yet.
Pros: the perfect Media computer
Cons: it's rather annoying for Power Users which may have to disable numerous security features to get rid of annoying reminders
On a Computer Capable of Running Windows Vista it looks great, and I give it 5 stars for it's Audio Video Capabilities
I get a mediocre rating according to Vista on my Gaming computer; Pentium IV 1.5gigs of ram & 512 video card. Especially with Windows media player 10 and Media Center. To summarize things Vista is Breaking away from the Standard Microsoft Line of Products by creating Home Entertainment systems. With MC being a perfect television Kiosk to access your Digital Home Movies, Photos, & Music. Adding Network storage and accessing Media from alternative locations is powerful although most of us Power Users have been doing this since Windows ME is awesome no more True type fonts & small icons to access stuff from your Television. Built in TV tuner card recording directly from Windows, PVR, and a more robust Movie Maker.
I would not recommend this Operating system for a computer built before 2006 although I do current run it on a computer thats indexed as a 1.0 for use, but the computers only purpose is to watch videos & listen to music on my Television. It does not need to fully support all of Vistas capabilities.
Microsoft also pulled a little swap on us as well; if you forgo the CD Key entry you can install any version of Vista for a 14 day trial from Basic to Ultimate Versions.
Pros: Being able to use admin functions easily in non admin accounts.
Cons: Incompatibilty issues with almost everything I own bought before December of last year.
I first tried to upgrade my older computer to Vista Home Premium, more than met the specs for it according to the upgrade adviser. It did not like some of the software I run (F-Prot anti virus, for example). There were also issues with hanging and the blue screen of death whenever I went into windows explorer and a couple of other programs. There is also no full driver for the HP photosmart 8250 printer. I also recently purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. So far I have been unable to get my printers to work for more than a few days before it forgets they are installed or how to talk to them. Tried manually pointing windows to the driver and it does not recognize the file as a driver. One ironic hardware issue is with my Microsoft Trackball. Vista tries to download and update the driver to the newest one but gives the warning that it is an old driver and not compatible with Vista and will not let you install it, no options (Microsoft says this driver is Vista ready and was updated for the Vista release). Internet connectivity is another issue. Most of the time it connects to my router flawlessly, but sometimes, like the printer issue, it forgets it is there or how to talk to it. When you run Vista network diagnostics, it shows that the dsl modem is not connected to the internet. The router says other wise when you are able to log into it. I don't understand why this os has so many issues with so many seemingly simple things compared to the XP release. Hopefully they will figure them out soon.
Pros: Cool Look, Nice adds, Windows SideBar, Aero interface, Security, Live Integration, Instant Search
Cons: Not compatible with some aplications.
Loved windows vista!!! really nice OS, better than OS X, Cool Look, Nice adds, Windows SideBar, Aero interface, Security, Live Integration, Instant Search.... very modern!
Pros: looks nice , search is great , user friendly
Cons: slows the pc down, to muh extras
frist instalin was great then all the extras slowd it down deleted sum things n turnd em off n it was fast
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Not compatible with software that isn't 64 bit.
Purchased with a new put together system. Even the brand new Sata dvd burner software was not compatible. Better than 80 percent of my software I would have to upgrade and that is just to much money for my budget. Put My XP Pro back on system.
