Pros: NO
Cons: Yes
I bought a BRAND NEW microsoft fingere reader and everyone in my family can put there finger on it and get into any of my website and things with out me having to put my finger on it.
I thought it was going to be the best thing to buy because so I wouldn't have to type in my ID & password but i guess not.
Next time i will look into the product before i waste $30.00 of my money toward a product that doesn't do what they say it does.
Pros: installs easily
Cons: Will not allow login to a domain
I purchased this item for the sole purpose of logging in to my computer quickly and easily, but it won't do that. Sure, it will let me log in to web sites easily, but so will the built in software on my computer. In all fairness this would work well for a home user. The problem I ran in to is that my computer is part of a domain, and the software will not work with the domain login.
Pros: Reliable, fast, easy to use, works with IE and Firefox, accurate identification.
Cons: None.
The hardware piece is well designed, rugged and works very nice. The software that comes in the package is very easy to use.
The installation procedure is very straightforward: insert the CD in the drive, click the Next button a couple of times, plug the fingerprint reader, restart the computer.
The day-by-day usage is also very simple, since the program interface is very intuitive: on a logon screen, touch the reader, select the fields, fill them and it's done.
With all this easiness, after a week you just can't stand typing your passwords anymore on logon screen or websites.
The worst con about the product is now over: the reader does work with Mozilla Firefox web browser. All you must do is just installing an add-on, available at http:/
/
www.fingerauth.com.
Unfortunately, the reader can be used only on Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. There's also no support for the 64 bits version of these systems.
Although the installation program and manual states all the time that the fingerprint reader isn't a security feature, it should not fear the average user of buying and using it: the fingerprints and the logon data
are encrypted and, if you don't use it to save the password of your bank account that holds 1 million dollars, there's no need to worry about it. The security measures taken by MS are enough for the average user.
Cons: compatibility
this product has compatibility issues with the firefox browser. The software does not recognize sites opened under firefox.
Overall this is a cool gadget and it never gave me any problem
