Michael Macklyn is the alias used by head Jayhawk Gary Louris in the all-star roots collective Golden Smog. Because of contractual obligations with their "day jobs" as members of groups such as Wilco, the Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Run Westy Run, and the Honeydogs, the members of Golden Smog assumed different monikers. They came up with the "Smog names" by using their middle name as their first name and the street they grew up on as a last name. The group debuted with the EP On Golden Smog in 1992....
