Very good sound. Not something I would sit and listen to from beginning to end.

    Varied Inustrial Sounds

Metropolis, one of Sister Machine Gun’s more recent releases, is one of the only industrial albums that I have ever heard pull off a smooth and jazzy sound all the way through, while hitting on so many different emotions and styles. This album goes... from This metal sky, a resent filled spoken word attack on the system (since turned into a comic book!), to white lightning, with a cutting industrial rockabilly sound. Sister Machine Gun front man Chris Randall marries two ends of a very interesting spectrum with this album. This album seems like the heavy side of Sister Machine Gun, backed by the techno dance power of Chris Randall’s Micronaut side. Slow, smooth, and forceful horns fit in perfectly with the quick moving techno starts, heavy guitar lines, and even a little steel guitar. Chris Randall makes bouncing classical sounding electronic beats coincide with jazzy flowing oddly dissonant tones. Through all the varying sounds of this album, Chris Randall’s vocals manage to get the different moods across, all the while steadily and coolly pushing through. This album is a great step in the evolution of Sister Machine Gun. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Metropolis

  • All Music Guide

Despite cameos from David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels, Sister Machine Gun's fourth album Metropolis doesn't sound that much different than their previous three -- it is still the same mix of metal and Nine Inch Nails. Even if the group isn't showing any signs of great leaps in creativity, Metropolis is one of the group's most consistent efforts, offering a pummeling array of rattling beats and shattering guitars.

Sister Machine Gun

Before he began recording for the industrial label Wax Trax as Sister Machine Gun, Chris Randall worked in the company's mail room and as a roadie for Wax Trax's most popular band, KMFDM. By 1990 he had recorded a demo, which attracted the attention of KMFDM and earned Randall a chance to play some live shows. After the tour went well, Randall recorded an album with Chr... Read more
