Hideo Kojima's critically acclaimed "tactical espionage action" series returns to PlayStation 2 in the anticipated follow-up to 2001's Sons of Liberty. Instead of slinking around futuristic installations, knocking on metal to distract guards, or crawling underneath a cardboard box, players are given a whole new Snake to wrangle. Drawing its inspiration from films like First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II, Snake Eater drops players in the middle of a thick jungle teeming with wildlife and, of course, terrorists. Heavily armed enemies dressed in camouflage gear will patrol the dense forests, waterfalls, and surrounding areas, so players will be able to climb trees, fire pistols while hanging down from branches, and crawl through hollowed out logs to stalk their prey. Along the way, Snake will have to find sustenance by catching fish or other wildlife, while being mindful of natural hazards such hornets nests, cliffs, and rapids. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was first revealed in a 12-minute preview displayed at 2003's E3 in Los Angeles, California.

Pros: Great graphics, storyline, control, replayablity, tactics, and survival usage.

Cons: stupid little monkey minigame (although humorous dialogue), and funky camera angles

This game is a masterpiece. simply, a work of art. Graphics: Excellent, comparative to some high end computers. I'll even stake it up againt some Xbox games. xcellent. Fine details add even more. Kojima outdid himself this time. Gameplay: WON...DERFUL! oh my freaking god, it's awesome. Camouflage index adds so much to the game. Stalking is just incredible. The guards are alot brighter now, so they will hear you walking. The food and stamina guage, all though it does get a tad bit annoying, adds something. CQC is a category of it's own with limitless action aqnd stealth capablities. Plus that knife Snake now has is pretty helpful. Storyline - Mind boggling. Simply put. Characters: Characters in all their seriousnes, are humorous at times. try talking to sigint with your shirt off,or while your in a box. Replayability: Awesome. Got it 2 months ago, I'm replaying it still. Try doing the game on extreme and being stealthy. Incredible. The stupid ape game is fun for a little while, but it does get kinda annoying. I do however get a chuckle out of seeing solid snake yell "GOTCHA!" and "ALL DONE!" All in all this game is a masterpiece. Good job Hideo, you really outdid yourself this time! GIVE US A MGS 4!!!!! Best MGS game so far

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 7, 2004 | 1 out of 1 found this Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater review helpful

Pros: Good gameplay, excellent visuals, awesome story and cinematics

Cons: sometimes a little hard to see enemies, camera views sometimes awkward

Okay, so, I liked MGS 1 and 2, but MGS2 did lose me somewhat with the story...MGS3: Snake Eater totally makes up for that. The philosophy isn't as esoteric as it was in MGS2. Anyway, audio and graphics are as good, and in fact, a little better, I... think, than previous Metal Gear games. The story and the cinematic sequences are simply amazing, like playing a movie. If you're a fan of the Metal Gear series, you'll love this new installment. Read more Less

So apparently, this is it -- the final Metal Gear game ever. If it's really true, this is a fitting end. Many of the loose strings have been tied or snipped altogether, and from a gameplay perspective. Read more
