Ross Bagdasarian, also known as the eternally frustrated David Seville, created the Chipmunks in 1958 after a fluke tape speed experiment. What resulted was a cultural phenomenon that left children in stitches and adults in agony, as Alvin, Simon, and Theodore took to the airwaves with "The Chipmunk Song," one of the most revered -- or reviled -- tunes in radio history. Merry Christmas from the Chipmunks is a collection of Christmas songs pulled from their extensive catalog of holiday cheer. Classics like "Frosty the Snowman" and a particularly disturbing version of "Greensleeves" still emit far more Christmas spirit than Mannheim Steamroller, and the production crackles with the delicious sound of mid-'60s tape hiss. While no one in his or her right mind would champion the Chipmunks as anything but novelty, only the blackest of hearts could truly hate these harmless varmints.
