Ryder does a wonderful job in acting...especially at the end with her sister (no I am not going to give away the ending!) But Cher...definately should stick to singing

'Mermaids' is a wonderful movie, revolving around a single-parent family. The Mother, played by Cher, is eccentric in every aspect, constantly moving her girls around the states of america whenever it suits her. The elder daughter, Winona Ryder, is a lost soul, hopelessly looking for her identity, going through the pains of teenagehood, and feeling all alone in the world. The younger daughter, Christina Ricci, is a devoted swimmer, a fish who breathes, lives, eats, and sleeps in water. We see the family in a new town, and finally all the kept-in resentments come out and the problems are solved.
