    I Hope RCA Chokes

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 10, 2003 | 15 out of 17 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

    Pros: Talent Beyond Belief

    Cons: None

I read the article about RCA employees saying Clay Aikens CD will not sell - that it will be a bust, no good, no one will buy it - he will be a 1 hit wonder - that no one will really like his voice once they listen to it - that the music industry wil...l spit him out because he is not what the public buys. I have news for them - they are IDIOTS! He was 1 of 4 (FOUR) artists whose single went platinum (and he did it quicker then any of the 4 - one of them being Elton John). So what makes them think he is unpopular, can't sing and that his album will flop. RCA should take a serious look at their "staff" and clean house getting rid of those negative attitudes and "staffers" that only want to sell sex in their songs - I hope each one of them CHOKE on a copy of his album which I predict will go platinum within 2 weeks of being released (if not before it is released). I for one plan to purchase 2 copies, 1 for my wife and 1 for myself. Clay is awesome. Read more Less

    I LOVE CLAY!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 7, 2003 | 7 out of 9 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

I don't care what anyone says... Clay should have won American Idol... yeah, Ruben could sing, but Clay could sing a helluva lot better! He's a true icon and I'm glad that there is someone in the music industry that young boys and girls c...an look up to... a real role model, unlike people like Miss Britney Spears. Clay has morals and he's got a strong faith in God. I LOVE YOU CLAY! Read more Less

    Fun CD

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 14, 2003 | 5 out of 5 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

    Pros: Great ballads

    Cons: Very mellow throughout

One of Clay's strengths is his consistency. All of his songs have beautiful tone and power. The only problem I see is that I haven't heard him sing anything besides ballads. Don't get me wrong. I'm perfectly happy with that but I want... to really let people know what this CD sounds like. The liner notes are really sparse although it does hold a small fold out poster of Clay. Track by track:1. Invisible - Really interesting song with a lot of the power the single carried.2. I Will Carry You - A nice ballad but doesn't have the same catchiness as some of the other tracks.3. The Way - More romantic than many of the others. Very sweet lyrics to this one describing the way that this girl makes him feel and act. Really moving.4. When You Say You Love Me - Faster paced tuned with a strong beat. This is one of those catchy driving tunes.5. No More Sad Songs - I love this one. Clay really plays with the song and puts a lot of emotion into this track. 6. Run To Me - This track has a little of the same power shown on Invisible and This Is The Night. Interestingly enough, I just looked at the writers and some of the same people worked on all three of these songs. That explains the similarity in strength. The tunes all have a great flow to them.7. Shine - Nice but not a real standout on the CD. With the Clay Aiken power voice, it's hard not to skip to the songs that really bring that out. The bridge of this one is probably the most interesting part of the song but still doesn't make it great.8. I Survived You - Lyrics seem rushed at times on this track but really brings an interesting feel to the beat. 9. This Is The Night (bonus cut) - Well, if you don't know how this one sounds, you haven't been listening to the radio lately. Beautiful powerhouse of a song. Really showcases Clay's strong clear voice. Maybe I don't know the song well enough but I can't tell what the difference is between this cut and the single. No matter, still wonderful!10. Perfect Day - One of the more intriging songs on the CD. This is almost not a ballad so it brings a little more to the album as a whole.11. Measure Of A Man - The title song has a really nice solo piano part to begin and brings out the quality of Clay's voice rather than the power that many of the other songs showcase. The lyrics have some Christian symbolism with "Would he walk on water?", "Would he give his life up to be all he can?", and building a life around "his one true belief." Beautiful sentiment in this one to go with the lovely tune.12. Touch - Very different end to the CD with this song that has more of a dance beat to it.Overall, quite a nice beginning for Clay. Looking forward to seeing him develop his voice and career. Read more Less

    Aiken or Dylan?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 16, 2003 | 4 out of 4 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

    Pros: Masterful Vocal Ability

    Cons: Still looking for one

One might be a little skeptical about Clay Aiken. Here's a man (who obviously knows the measure of a man judging rom the aptly named album title) who came from out of nowhere and captured the hearts of Americans. It would be easy to dismiss Aiken... as a fabrication or product of media hype or our national consumerism, but I say hold on one minute partner. Aiken's debut album will no doubt draw comparisons to Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Kurt Cobain. Aiken has a knack for delivering his emotions through his lyrics like none I have heard before. This man is something special. If you haven't had a chance to catch Clay live, let me tell you what you are missing. I caught Clay on an episode of Oprah Winfrey earlier this year and he was nothing short of wonderful (there is even talk of a "Clay Aiken: Oprah Live (The Early Years)" disc. The man makes you feel one with him. He lets you into his world, which is one of roses and streets paved with Hershey Kisses, baring his soul and vulnerability. The production and performances on "Measure of a Man" translate those feelings well while asking the listener to look inside of themselves. That my friends is truly the "Measure of a Man". Measure Of A Man

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 12, 2003 | 4 out of 4 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

Pros: Wow! How hot is it in here? Wonderful!

Cons: Why can't each song be a hit?

I have heard all the songs on the cd. WOW! Clay, Clay, Clay what are you doing to me? He may not want to sing songs that overly sexual in lyrics, but with his voice and the music, that is what has happened! Of course ""This is the Night&...quot; has been released as a single and it did extremely well. The new songs however, are so different that I was suprised when I heard them. "Touch", what a way with words and that beat! "The Way", what can I say? The ending on that songs just radiates! "When You Say You Love Me", so pretty! "Run to Me". . . sends chills up my neck! "Measure of a Man", "I Will Carry You", "Shine", "No More Sad Song", "Perfect Day", "I Survived You" are all great songs (really great!) and of course "Invisible" climbing the top ten charts as I write this. His phrasing is so good on the songs. That might be his second greatest attribute, after his voice. Clay Aiken is a true singer. Most true music lovers have been waiting a long time for someone to come along and sing to our hearts. Clay Aiken does and he is here and Measure of a Man is the cd! Read more Less

    Nothing is ever perfect...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 15, 2003 | 3 out of 3 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

    Pros: the vocals

Cons: lack of lyrics on liner notes

But this is so darn close that it's scary.First off, there is something I would like to get out of the way: I am one of Clay Aiken's many fans, so here is a warning that the review might be a little biased. I try not to, but there you are.As ...for the album "Measure of a Man" itself... I quite personally think it's absolutely amazing. The melody, the lyrics, the blending songs, the production, the entire flow of it is almost – dare I say it – seamlessly flawless. The songs are catchy, fun, and a lot more upbeat than one would expect from Clay’s first album. Some of my personal recommendations include: Measure of a Man (Clay’s favourite amongst the twelve tracks included), Perfect Day (the power and flow and catchiness is nothing less than amazing), and I Will Carry You (true Clay-esque power ballad that is above all emotionally staggering).Yet to me, none of this qualitative description sets this album apart at all: oh no, many other albums through the history of the modern music industry might be able to boast of this. No, what makes “Measure of a Man” so special is the man who sings it. Virtually no one in today’s music industry can boast of a voice that possesses such a clear and curiously beautiful tone. Clay Aiken’s voice is no longer just a talent: it’s a gift. Sure, all the songs on MoaM are quite fabulous, but would they be anywhere near as mesmerizing as they are if it was someone else singing? All in all, I guess what I’m trying to say is… it takes a team of great writers to produce the great songs. It takes one man to make the great songs into musical legends.Clay Aiken is that one man. Clay Aiken is the picture of a Measure of a Man

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 14, 2003 | 2 out of 2 found this Measure of a Man review helpful

Pros: I would let my children listen to this CD anytime

    Cons: Can't find one yet

I'm sitting here listening to Clay Aiken's new CD and my daughter is in the room. I'm not worried, because I know she can hear it all and I don't have to worry about foul language in the lyric. And the music is very catchy. Its ref...reshing to finally see some good music out there again. Music that is meant for people of all ages and makes you smile when you listen to it. Its time to get rid of the thought that music has to be filled with pornography to make it good to listen to. I will buy every Clay Aiken single from here on out. Read more Less
