Pros: Looks Nice
Cons: Everything else
Hi, my name is Laurie and I'm a Maytag Hater! I purchased my fridge 6/21/08. It came with the standard 1 yr. manufacturers warranty and I purchased an extended warranty. Have had no problems with the thing until 5/18/09... Almost one year to the day. I experienced the possession! The control panel started flashing lights, the ice maker door kept flapping open and closed, and the refrigerator lost all ability to keep cool. Fortunately the freezer is still working. Okay, so the minute the fridge crapped out, I pick up the phone and call the number in the userâs manual that comes with the thing. The lady schedules and appointment with a service company TWO DAYS LATER. The guy comes to make the repairs and sees my model and starts shaking his head... "Oh yes, very common problem with this model. The computer in back of these goes out all the time. I'm surprised it lasted 11 months." Well, of course, he didn't have the proper control board and said he would have to order it. This was a Saturday and he would not be able to place the order until Monday. On Thursday, when I still had not heard anything, I called the service place. He said he'd ordered the part twice now and both times the wrong part was sent. So Friday comes (note this is the Friday before Memorial Day) and I get on the phone to Maytag again. They inform me that the service guy has already called them and informed them of the second mistake and because it is so late in the day at the beginning of a holiday weekend, they are unable to ship out the correct part on that day. Now I would have to wait until next Tuesday... the day after Memorial Day - on top of that, the lady at Maytag informs me that they do not expedite shipments. I could expect the replacement part in two to three days. Thatâs two weeks without a refrigerator. Absolutely unacceptable! I purchased this model pretty much based on a brand name that I believed to have a good reputation. Unfortunately I was wrong. I am currently seeking legal representation for Maytagâs direct violation of the Lemon Law. The woman I spoke to at Maytag told me that there were not enough complaints of this situation to justify a recall. They don't believe the problem is bad enough. If there are any others out there who would be interested in sharing your story in a court of law and hopefully receive compensation, please respond to me ASAP at girdy98@yahoo.com

Pros: Looks Good
Cons: Poor Quality
I bought the refrigarator new in July of 06. Control panel went out in April of 08. Maytag customer service response was
"its out of warrenty". Cost me $600.00 dollars to repair.
Pros: Lots of space- fridge and freezer
Cons: Electronics (control panel)
Our lasted 2 years almost to the date of purchase (from Sears) before the dreaded ice door flapping began. Not only did the electronics panel go bad, but the cooling (condenser?) fan went as well. This means no cooling what so ever.
Luckily (I think) we purchased the extended warranty from Sears. I've waited 6 days so far to get it fixed! We had a tech. out the day after it failed and he said the soonest they could come back to install the parts (which I've had a for a couple of days) would be a week!! What a bunch of B.S.!
Sure I won't have to pay for repairs but ONE full day off of work so far to wait for a 10 minute diagnosis, and a refrigerator that's been dead for nearly a week just doesn't justify the cost of a crappy extended warranty.
Steer clear of Sears, their extended warranty charade and Maytag in general.
Pros: None Anymore
Cons: Name it; gave it 1 star since we can't use zeros
Bought this refrigerator at Sears; we had been wanting this style for quite a while and it took us some time to save up the money, just to find we had put all the effort into getting hosed badly.
Have experienced the problems in every other review on this site. Icemaker works intermittently, MOBO fried itself and none of our food stays cold. Just lost everything and we're being told it's going to be north of $500 just to replace it's brains. Haven't even gotten to the dead icemaker yet.
It's been downhill since day 1; it was delivered DOA and it took over A MONTH to get it in service. MOBO was dead then, as well as the compressor. Now that it's 13 months old, dead again. I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, but I'm ready to believe this thing has preprogrammed failure modes.
We will never, EVER let anything Maytag into this house again, and will make it a point to convey our experiences with this sorry company to anyone who will listen, wherever and whenever we can. You think they could at least yank that damphool repairman out of wherever he's jerking off and put him in the QC department, then they'd have one.
Pros: LOTS OF STORAGE SPACE
Cons: YOU BETTER BUY THE WARRANTY
I BOUGHT THIS REFRIGERATOR AND TO THE DATE 12 1/2 MONTHS LATER THE REFRIGERATOR STARTED MAKING A FLAPPING SOUND FROM THE ICE MAKER AND COMPLETELY DID NOT COOL ANYMORE, I DIDN'T BUY THE WARRANTY AND THEY CHARGED ME $186.00 JU8ST TO GIVE ME A DIAGNOSIS AND THE FEE TO FIX IT WAS 482.00 AND THAT IS NOT EVEN A GAURANTEE THAT THERE IS NOT SOMETHING ELSE WRONG. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT. IT'S A RIP OFF.
Pros: Nice Looking, functional, quiet motor, well laid out
Cons: Ice/water dispenser died. Ice maker is loud
If you have this fridge you probably have already experienced (or soon will) the dreaded ice door flapping and flashing lights.
A well documented problem caused by bad capacitors in the power supply board.
Maytag is refusing to acknowledge this and issue a recall, probably because it has yet to cause any safety concerns and it's cheaper to just ignore complaints.
My suggestion if you have already purchased this fridge, don't buy any parts from Maytag but rather search the forums for the $5 fix, any of course don't buy anything ever again with the Maytag label.
Pros: None
Cons: Display Panel Flashing
Everyone else has already said it, this thing is a lemon. I have the same display panel - flashing light, ice flap problem everyone else has.
It should have been recalled by now.
Pros: Design and color options
Cons: Recall issue, freezing door
Well, my fridge finally found the demons sent forth by our good friends at Maytag. My unit has joined the ranks of flapping ice doors and blinking controls. Of course it happens on a Saturday evening with no help available until Monday morning.
Beyond that, I was generally neutral with the model before. Although it took a while to find the right temperature setting to keep the milk side cool without freezing it, there is a lot of space for different sized items. Any weight on the moveable shelf (that you twist to move up and down) and the shelf breaks. While I haven't had any issues with the icemaker to date, I'm sure I have something new and exciting to look forward to with my Ice2O.
Overall, Maytag made a great design into a poor product and consumers are sadly misinformed.
Pros: Good features, lots of room
Cons: Engineering design flaw
While I love the french door design, which allows for storage of large dishes, there is a serious engineering flaw with this model. The circuit board is located in the back of the unit in an enclosed box with no ventilation and no fan. Subsequently, the capacitors will overheat and blow out after about a year which leads to the continually posted problem of malfunctions (see http:/
/
www.complaintsboard.com/
complaints/
5247/
page/
1 ). There are pages of the same complaint about this model. Maytag / Whirlpool will send A&E out to replace the circuit board at no charge (especially if you mention litigation) but it's just a band aid. It doesn't solve the design flaw and the problem will reoccur in several more months. Since none of us have gotten that far yet (that is, having the replaced board blow out) I don't know what Maytag's response will be. Either way, this machine does not meet industry standard, they are aware of the issue, and yet have not recalled the fridge or offered a long term solution. Seems to me to have all the ingredients for a good class action suit.
Pros: style great
Cons: freezes things in refrigerator
The electronic board on front of my refrigerator has gone out twice already. Each time after 2 weeks maytag still had sent no part so American Tv took the part from one on the floor so I would have a working refrigerator again. They have also replaced the mister three times already. Both the mister and front board are on order AGAIN and I have no refrigerator. I did buy a service contact that says after either 3 or 4 visits you get a new one. I think I have 8 or 9 visits but so American put it up for review AGAIN and offered to expedite the parts which they have done the previous two times. I think there must be a design flaw with the refirgerator for it to continue to freeze food. I have it set at 41 and the tech found it to be 27 degrees inside refrigerator even with our opening it several times prior to his coming. I would not consider buying this design and or Maytag again for some time. I will also think twice before puchasing these worthless service contracts from American Tv.
Pros: Looks
Cons: Loud obnoxious noise from ice maker
This has got to be one of the worst purchases we have ever made!!!! I will never buy a Maytag product again after this one. Serviced 3 times and still not fixed...the ice maker tries to load ice and makes a loud noise that is incredibly embarrassing when guests are over.
Pros: Is very nice to look at
Cons: Workmanship and customer support!!
Our fridge is possessed!! It continuously opens and shuts the ice shoot door and the front panel flashes constantly. The ice and water don't work! Maytag customer support is not helpful and rude. We bought this thinking we would get what we paid for. Well, I expected a lot better than what we got for our $2000+. Buyer beware!! Check out all the same flapping flashing complaints online, I sure wish we had!!
Pros: Nice big fridge
Cons: everything else
Stay away from this Fridge. I have had mine about 13 mo and the ice maker never worked right. And now this morning I woke up to a flooded kitchen!!
Problem is the ice maker gets jammed up (the lever that senses when the ice maker is full doesnt always work). For the third time since I have had this fridge the ice maker try fills with water ...and keeps filling until the water overflows and comes out the ice chute.
This was almost $2500 down the tubes, and of course being as it is one month out of warranty..Im sure Maytag will do nothing about it.
Pros: Horrible Quality and Customer Service
Cons: Good Space Utilization
My Ice20 Refrigerator has had nothing but problems. Refrigerator refused to cool and lights flashed on front and flapper kept flapping. They scheduled an appointment for 1 week and did not show, then rescheduled for 1 week more came and said that this was a recall and replaced the computer part. Still did not cool, called and they scheduled appointment for 1 more week out, came and said it was the fan. Scheduled another appointment for 1 week out and the fan part never came and said that I should call UPS to track it. I have had it! Another appointment has been scheduled and we are now 5 weeks without a refrigerator. I will never buy Maytag again! A&E is their service vendor and they are unbelievable in their lack of concern. The last lady I got was at least willing to reorder the part THEY lost. It turns out that the flapping computer part is a RECALL they failed to notify anyone about.
Pros: Looks great!
Cons: It has defective parts
I suggest you do a keyword search using these words: control panel problems maytag refrigerator. My ice dispenser door would flap and the light panels blink off and on. I replaced the control panel and was told Maytag was on their 3rd design of the control panel because they continued to have problems with it. Now the icemaker water flow won't stop, the ice backs up, and this morning I had gushing water all over my hardwood floors. I called Maytag corporate offices and they are covering my charges. I asked them why they didn't do a product
recall and they said they are watching it.
I wouldn't recommend this refrigerator as Maytag is not the same manufacture with the Lonely Repairman as we all remember. That's why the company was sold several years ago.
Pros: give you an idea on fix
Cons: no warrenty, contract coverage your SOL(maybe)
The Ice2O is certainly a pretty neat design on a fridge but, lets be hononest this fridge is a bad idea from some engineers that need to go back to their crayons and coloring books and figure out a better design. If your icemaker is jamming get a short phillip screw driver take off the front cover of the IM and turn the filltiming screw till the screw is a hair left of the center line, dont worry it's easy and may save you a service call. If you need to get a jam out of the ice fingers (what pushes out the ice) do it carefulling if your fingers get cought in it during rotation, YAH will hurt.
If your desp. front is blinking and the ice chute door is flapping take the cap off the top hinge of the lft. side door and disconnect till a repair can be done (will save your sanity). IN THIS CASE it's the high voltage control board has shorted and the ONLY repair is a new board. If your out of warrenty or have no extended coverage call Maytag/Whirlpool and try your best to get a concession on part and labor of repair other wise prepare for a bill over $300. Nuff said for now, hope I helped. Just your friendly neighborhood fridge tech..
Pros: Worked well for a while
Cons: Maytag Brand Name - not as reputable
A year and half into use, the panel stopped working. No ice or water. The panel would flash and the ice chute would open and close on its own. Extremely annoying knowing that we bought a Maytag product for the reputation. Very disappointed. Paid $3000 for a top of the line fridge but will now have to throw another few hundred to have it fixed in less than 2 years.
Pros: bottom style freezer
Cons: defective icemaker dispenser and defective mother boards
I am writing to support the negative experiences already posted in the reviews listed here. My Maytag french door side by side had the same ice/water dispenser problem of flashing controls and a loud continuous clunking noise. Also, the refrigerator could not maintain its temperature setting. We had to replace both "mother boards" to an estimated cost of $469.00. The unit is just barely over a year old and, therefore, out of warranty.
Previous to its complete breakdown, the ice dispenser never worked smoothly. About one third of the time you had to open the door, remove the ice dispenser, loosen the ice within, replace it and then you could get ice to dispense through the door.
Also, the doors do scratch extremely easily. As a matter of fact, they were delivered scratched and I have had 4 different doors installed. I have given up on getting doors that aren't scratched.
Also, the crank handle to adjust the shelf level does not work well.
Another complaint about the unit is the wide flip up plastic bin door does come off its hinges frequently.
After all of these negative experiences, I know why the dealer was so interested in selling me an extended warranty. The manufacturer doesn't have to provide a working product if I purchase an extended warranty. With an added warranty, they don't have to feel guilty about a bad product because they can fix it within the parameters of the extended warranty at my added expense! I am tired of having to buy a warranty to support a defective product.
We did go out and purchase a surge protector for the refrigerator. This was our idea-this was not suggested by the manufacturer, the dealer or the repairman! I highly recommend it.
The repairman recommended that the next time we buy a refrigerator we buy a bare bones refrigerator. I second that opinion. What good is an ice and water dispenser in the door if it only works half the time?
I feel like a Maytag guinea pig, you don't have to, don't buy this refrigerator.
Pros: look good
Cons: fall apart and nothing works the way it should.
I purchased my maytag french door refrigerator about a year ago. At first I thought it was great, but it didn't take long, before I realised that it was a peace of junk! The ice maker when it did make ice would take forever to dispence the ice and when it did dispence, it usally over filied the cup and ice would end up all over the floor. The crisper door is always falling off, and the bottom sliding doors jam quite often. It freezes my eggs solid all the time. One day I came home to find my house flooded by the ice maker. I was not happy, we have brand new hardwood floors and the refer is on the upstairs so we had water damage to the dowstairs ceiling as well. We called the repair company they came out and fixed the doors and the ice maker, but it has not made ice since he left. I have lived in fear that it would leak on our new floor since. recently the control panel has been acting up blinking and making a slapping noise , now the water doesn't work either . We are calling the repair place today. I think this refrigerator is not only malfunctioning, but of poor design and substandard quality, I do not think that there is any way to fix it and do expect a full refund. I have written and spoke to the maytag complaint department, they told me that it was my choice as a consumer to have purchased their product and that they could not be responsible for buyers remorse.I have a $2,500. piece of maytag junk !!!!! not BUYERS REMORSE !!!!!!
Pros: Nice layout
Cons: Doesn't work well
We no sooner bought this fridge and the Maytage repairman was at our house three days within one week. The second week we owned it the entire fridge just quit working all together. They tried fixing it but eventually realized they needed to send a new one. Now, 9 months later, our ice maker is broken. The ice tray is full and won't flip. Poor engineering keeps the water coming to fill up the tray every so often and when it does water spews everywhere, coming out the door and all over everything! I called maytag today and I have to wait 9 days before they can even get to me! And if I don't have my original receipt I have to pay the repairman when he is done. I will never buy another Maytag appliance.
Pros: None really
Cons: ice maker that doesn't produce ice
Bought our fridge in June 2006 and JUST (I'm talkin days) before the warrenty was up the control panel lights started flashing and the ice trap door opened and closed on its own like it was possessed or something. Then the fridge stopped working alltogether. They came out to fix it the next day but had to order the part, which was supposed to be overnighted to our house the next day, which it wasn't; it was two days (and 2 days without a fridge). They finally came back 2 days later to install the part.
My warrenty was extended six months because of this problem which leads me to believe they have been getting ALOT of complaints.
It seemed to be working fine but now it doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to make ice again.
Pros: nice look
Cons: unreliable, poor service
My Maytag Model # MFI2568AES begins to make flashing panel flapping icemaker noise constantly yesterday which is 11 month after the purchase. There is no water flow or ice making even thought the water line connection outside the frig is good. Upon reading comments online, I found too many people having the same experience. I wish I had known this issue before this expensive purchase. This issue appears to be wide spread and might be class action worthy. The service experience from others are not very encouraging. I am not looking forward to wait for weeks before parts arrive.
Pros: Great design features
Cons: Poor quality; ice maker and service
Bought this in 3/06 and right out of the box, the ice maker didn't work. Took a week for Service to arrive, didn't have part, took another week to get it installed.
Worked pretty good until 5/07 -- just out of warranty. Like someone else mentioned, the lights on the control panel now all flash and the little door to the ice maker opens and closes every 6 seconds -- every time the compressor goes on. Oh, and of course, even when it looks ok, now you can't get water or ice from the door.
We'll see if A&E Service arrives and fixes it in 3 days.
Pros: Energy Efficient, Convenient, Looks nice
Cons: Doors don't always shut automatically. Freezes veggies, can't increase the temp in drawer without rest of the Fridge being to warm. Service unbelievably poor.
Icemaker stopped working in first 6 months, when the technician arrived he had an incorrect part in the box and had to order one. One week latter he arrived with the correct updated part and installed it. We were smart enough to buy a four-year extended warranty. The Fridge was 13 months old and stopped working Wednesday. Called customer support. Technician arrives and diagnoses the problem as bad computer card in the door. He then calls for part (my guess is because they go bad all of the time he knew right away what was the problem). Says that it will be 2-6 business days to get part. I call on Friday after the part arrives UPS. They say it will be Monday between 8am & 4pm before they can get a technician out to install the part. Problem turned out not to be the door control board that the technician had ordered, next he looked at the main control board, bet that he doesnât have that part on his truck either. Technician had to order the main control board and it will be another week before he has it fixed(A&E doesnât work this area except Monday and Wednesday although it is only 25 miles from Oklahoma City). I guess that Maytag guy and A&E(Sears extended warranty service) guy decided they would both just go home. They're not trying to get someone out fairly quickly but for what their stuff costs they really need to have scheduling be a 24 hour task and arrange to have refrigeration taken care of the next day.
Not only will I never by a new fridge from Maytag but I'll never buy another product from them or Whirlpool, their owners. Please pass it around.
Pros: Cool Looking, Great use of space
Cons: Low quality, constant problems
I bought mine from home depot 8 mos ago. Loved it when I got it, but soon after had problems with the ice maker. they replaced the ice maker. Now the ice maker is still having problems. Its not strong enough to break up all the ice. the ice cubes freeze in big blocks causing the system to clog. Last night the thing took on a mind of its own. All the lights are flashing on the control panel, the ice and water maker dont work at all. The flap is constantly opening and closing all on its own, constantly making a clicking noise all night long. Finally we had to unplug it so we could get 4 hours sleep. Plug it in this morning and its still doing it. My biggest concern is what happens after the warrenty runs out. I already know this thing has mechanical problems. Did I get a lemon or is it junk?? Either way Im stuck with a $2,800 refridgerator that seems like it has bad engineering.
Pros: water & Ice on the door, milk compartment stays cooler
Cons: ice sometimes misses the glass, not a real big ice capacity
I love the refrigerator, got a 450 dollar discount at Home Depot on it, plus a 200 dollar gift card, and free delivery. On top of all of that, 12 months no payments no interest with the home depot card.
Delivery guys were 2 hours late, and took over 2 hours to install. Very nice guys, just the slowest people I ever saw.
the refrigerator fills the spot nicely in our kitchen, and the way we built it, it looks like a counter depth unit. there is no unacceptable noise levels like I heard from some reviews.
My wine chiller makes more noise than this unit!
the ice cubes sometimes miss even the largest pitchers/glasses which can be frustrating, but the overall layout and design is perfect.
