If you have kids, don't get this oven

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 22, 2008 | 4 out of 5 found this Maytag Gemini Free Standing Double Oven Range review helpful

Pros: Would have liked having 2 ovens

Cons: Hot to touch outer upper door!

I have never been so disappointed by an appliance. Huge design flaw. The whole cooktop heats up to nearly 175. (We checked it with a thermometer) The front door vents out at the top of the door and heats as hot as the oven. My kids (3 and 6) could ea...sily get burned on this oven... I am sending it back and currently in disagreement with Sears at Bayshore Mall in Milwaukee. They want to charge a 15% restocking fee because when their service technician came out, he said it was normal! We were never told. If you have a laminate countertop, it would surely ruin the glue and therefore the counter. DONT GET IT! Ours also cooks unevenly in the upper oven and I would not be able to bake a cake in it. The technician left the manual out and said there are some things you shouldn't cook in the upper oven. Holy Moly... Lots of things they don't tell you. Ask about these things before you buy it. horrible experience

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 17, 2009 | 3 out of 3 found this Maytag Gemini Free Standing Double Oven Range review helpful

Pros: I hoped the double oven would be a pro. nope.

    Cons: Every single feature!

I bought this stove 4 years ago. It has never worked properly. It constantly overheated, and I had it recalibrated twice. Then the tech decided it needed new sensors. After it continued to overheat, the tech decided it needed a new controller. I emai...led and called Maytag to ask for a replacement. Their offer was to sell me the next part it needed for half price. I'm shopping for a replacement, and it won't be this brand! Read more Less

    Worst appliance, worst service

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 17, 2009

Pros: Looks nice, practical solution to limited space

Cons: Won't hold true temperature, won't stay calibrated

I bought this appliance 5 years ago when we built our house. I had trouble with it from day one. I have had two service calls because neither of my ovens will hold a true temperature. Cookies that should bake in 10-12 minutes can take up to 30 minute...s. The temperature that shows on the oven panel usually is not even close to the true temperature. The last time I cook a roast, the temperature on the oven panel showed 325 degrees when the inside temperature was 450 degrees. Another time I cooked a beef roast for 7 1/2 hours and it was still rare. The repairman told me that the temperature range from 200 to 450 degrees averaged out to 325 so there was nothing wrong with it. A second repairman said it only needed a minor adjustment. I have spent a lot of time and money on ruined food and disasterous dinner parties. I would not recommend this product to anyone! Read more Less

    for small spaces, huge value

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 11, 2009

Pros: great broiler on top, convection below, pretty, control knobs not on cooktop

Cons: all- glass top needs daily maintanance, surface stays hot 10 minutes after turning off burners

We wanted two ovens, but didn't have the space for cooktop+ two ovens and microwave. We LOVE the smaller oven on top, use it daily for most meals, omelets, bacon in the morning to steaks broiled at night. Also serves as a warmer! Lower oven is fu...ll capacity, great sliding racks, and self-cleaning (top one, too). Cooktop has 5 burners , one a warmer. High heat to very low simmer. I used to have a restaurant and only used gas but this cooktop goes very high to very low. It does stay hot after burners are turned off, so a safety issue for little ones. We got an aAllure (Broan) deluxe vent overhead...lots of fan with almost no sound. We haven't had any need for maintenance or support in 3 years. Read more Less
