Sorry About Dresden's eclectic and energetic brand of indie rock blossoms from the start of "King of Hobbies," the first track on The Mayor Will Abdicate. The band's wild live shows translated on record with the help of producer Jerry Kee, who recorded most of the album's songs at his Duck Kee Studios. The Chapel Hill, NC, quartet incorporate steady bass rhythms, a staggering amount of crunchy guitar lines, and casual vocals to create a freewheeling and playful style of punky indie rock. Their music is easily comparable to a more straightforward rock version of Seaweed, but the band showcases its own experimental side as well, especially on "I Hear Baltimore Is Nice This Time of Year." They slow down on songs like "Somewhere There's Snow" and "Fait la Force." The disc ends with the dramatic anthem "Butterflies."
