Cons: Scarlett a bit too uptight in those scenes
A movie about an ex tennis pro player but hardly talks about tennis. Rather it is the luck or curse when the ball hits the top of the net that's the central theme here.
To many, the ending would be outright injustice, but to me it helps reinforce the fact that judgment day is not always just around the corner, and you just have to be all the more careful who you trust - and love - in this life.

Cons: too boring slow
British drama is improving. What controls our life ? is it our mere desires, or maybe a bit of luck ? Find out as you watch the story of an Irish tennis instructor who came to London wishing to make a fortune & ends up marrying the sister of a wealthy club member ... all seems fine untill he falls in love with his sister-in-law (Scarlett), she gets pregnant and threatens to expose him ... Tough decison he has to make between his new comfortable life, or his secret love !! ... Excellent drama, but the movie rhythm is so slow ... Scarlett is marvellous & has a stunning sex appeal ;-)) ... Great background scenery as well ...

»The man who sad, I'd rather be lucky than good, saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is depended on luck. It's scary to think so much is out of one's control. There are moments in a match, when the ball hits the top of the net.. And for a split second it can go eather forward or forback. With a little luck it goes forward and you win. Or maybe it doesn't and you loose.«
Throughout the movie Woody is twisting the opening thought in many ways. And when the "where the ball hits the net" situations come, they turn as much expected as not.
Although the story and it's direction are not best, and two hours seems to be much more than enough, the main thought stays infinite.Was this review helpful? Yes - No
