I still have this album playing now and then. This is simply a hip-hop classic. Eminem is an artist who innovated rap and simply took it to a whole new level. He kept the game alive with this album. He created his own style, and kept rap music fresh. This is simply a classic. Lyrically he did an amazing job, you haven't seen someone speak their mind like that since 2pac. When you speak your mind your going to get criticism. This cd was highly controversial, but it was pure realism. I have huge respect for Eminem, because I think without him, Hip-Hop wouldn't be what it is today or it might not even be here at all. He attracted new audiences with this album. This album is a masterpiece and definitley a classic that forever will be remembered in hip-hop music. Definitley should pick it up if you still don't have it.

This album is truly incredible. I've played it about a million times a day, but I still never get tired of it. This album is the greatest because he puts his soul into the music. He can take his anger and his hurt and turn it into the greatest songs. And in this album, he wasn't afraid to express what was on his mind. He was even willing to show rage at his fans. Yet, it managed to be extremely funny as well. The Kevin skit was extremely sick and funny and so was the Steve Berman skit. I loved the sick humor in his songs as well. But he is not great just for his anger and humor. He spits really well too. Unlike other rappers, he is a master of the English language and knows how to rap words at precise speeds, rhythms, intonations to express exactly what he wants with the precise intensity. His beats are great as well. Each beat matches his lyrics and his emotion. There is not one track that sounds bad. There were some issues with his homophobia and sexism. I did not not like the chorus to 'Kill you', or the first half of the first verse to 'Criminal', but when there are so many great elements, its easy to forgive these flaws. There is no other album like this one. This album has everything I have ever liked about music. It is gritty, it is authentic, and it is not a mere audience pleaser.

I feel sad though, that the elements I loved about his music faded away in later albums. The Eminem Show was extremely good, but I could feel him gravitating towards just being an audience pleaser, yet it had everything else. Unfortunately, his last album confirmed now, he is just an audience pleaser. Encore just mimicked the last two albums. He only tried to recycle their formulas, but the songs lost their soul and originality. It was catered to the audience. And after his other albums had so much soul, his fire has run out; he has nothing else to talk about. Encore was still better than most albums, but the CD is the embodiment of his downfall.

I don't think I will ever see such a great album again.

Before hearing this CD, I used to believe all the negative things said about Eminem's music. But the music is really good and the lyrics are quite clever as well. I don't know if young kids go off and shoot people after hearing these songs, those kids are probably going to be influenced by a lot of other things as well.

The Marshall Mathers Lp is the most overrated album in rap and hip hop history, to say that this is better than Biggie's Ready to die, Public Enemy's Fear of a black hat or it takes a nation to hold us back and 2Pac's Me against the world is a joke, and must be on some kind of acid trip, eminem basicially made rap and hip hop look stupid by using controversy, to compare eminem to tupac is like comparing a macaroni and cheese to barbacue rips, 2pac was about realism and teaching kids about the dangers of the streets and loving his mom, while eminem is about stupidity and teaching people on how to bleach their hairs and become like him and also about killing his wife and hating his mom, The Real Silm Shady is one of the cheeiest songs ever and The Way I Am is about making fun (Not original), Kill you should be called Kill yourself
and makaveli_tha_don and other stupid eminem fans calling this the greatest of all time, Pfft!, I'll be glad eminem doesn't exist anymore, mariah carey has tainted the image and made fun at him thanks to her song clown from her album charmbracelet.
