Marshall Allen's name will always be closely linked with that of Sun Ra. Although he was 32 when he started playing regularly with Ra (and had performed previously with pianist Art Simmons in Paris during 1949-1950 and toured Europe with James Moody), the altoist was a virtual unknown at the time.
