I love this cd because it is one of her best cds. I like mariah around this time because she was being herself. she had her own style. now mariah is so caught up in trying to stay young and be in competion with other artist like christina A, brittney s, whitney houston. that her songs don't catch my ear the way they use to. mariah is dressing more sexy and wearing more revealing clothes and to me that doesn't match her image because she didn't come out that way. it's okay to make a change in your life, but when it's a dramatic one like what she did. it doesn't look right or match her appearance.
This album brings back many memories for me.Even though I was just a toddler when this album was released, I still remember my mother singing along to most of these songs and me singing along with her to me this was one of my first musical expieriences. My favorite song on "Mariah Carey" is "I don't wanna cry" because I went through a relationship that was in the same catagory as what she sings about and that shows that music
can relate to your problems and can sometimes help solve them.I think that Mariah deserved those Grammy Awards for her work on this wonderful album because her voice is terrific.
I started listening to Mariah Carey's music around 12 and bought in the first place what was at the time her last album, Butterfly. It actually never had the effect "vision of love" had on me. With 11 rythmed and enjoyable songs, Mariah Carey is at her best here with good lyrics and an excisite voice.
I strongly recommand it to those who want some good old Mariah, so they can escape the over done RnB star she has become over the years....I just whish she would have stick to her first formula.
Mariah Carey has broken through the music biz with a boom in this entertaining and highly-energetic debut. Mariah Carey starts off the album with the powerful single "Vision of Love," to the silky heartbreaker "I Don't Wanna Cry," to the heart-pounding "Someday." Carey's graceful eponymous disc has some memorable moments, and ends triumphantly with the wonderful "Love Takes Time." Rating: B+
Mariah's debut album is one of my favorite CDs of all time. I was in 5th grade when I first heard "Vision of Love" and "Love Takes Time" and it's no surprise why she won Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in the 1991 Grammys. Furthermore, "I Don't Wanna Cry" is such a beautiful ballad that remains unsurpassed and "Someday" is such a rocking anthem for anyone who has been dumped by his/her special someone. This album has excellent sound quality compared to Carey's sophomore release "Emotions" and thus remains a certified platinum release in terms of performance and craftsmanship. :)
What more can I say? This is an excellent album and I grew up with it.It totally rocks just like her other albums.
Mariah Carey. Just her name commands a feeling of awe. While I'm sure she may not be THE greatest female artist of all time, she is definitely at the top of the Female Singer Pantheon. What separates her from all the Christinas out there is that she has amazing control and stability with her voice and ability. Christina has a great voice, but she could be so much better if she learned to discipline herself instead of just letting everything go. This album, however, is mind-blowing. It started it all. It showcases her extraordinary vocal range, and you can't NOT love it. And those who do not like it don't appreciate music for 'MUSIC'.
I remember when this album first come out; I was ten years old. Everyone just use to love Mariah Carey. I use to love when Vision of Love, Someday, and Love Takes Time use to come on the radio. I couldn't afford to by the album, so I listened to other people's albums. My mother use to own the album, but somewho, it got lost. Eventually, I ended up stealing me one, and I still own that same exact tape. I listened to the tape for years until I was old enough to get a job. With my first job, I bought myself a CD player and two Mariah Carey CDs, the first album and Daydream (I was the
Not a one-hit wonder, she's still the best
well, there may be imatating,,,but never duplicationg this voice. while christina aguleira and a few other try to be like mariah.they have a long way to go. mariahs smooth vocals of vanishing and vision of love make this album a collectors dream. Definitely one of the best albums of the 90's.
Vision of Love, Love takes Time, and I don't want to cry is reason enough to buy the album
A
You loved "Daydream"...
You liked "Rainbow"...
But believe me - if you haven`t heard THIS - you haven`t heard Mariah!!!
I think that this is the only album made by her that is worth listening to.
It was a wonderful start. I thought she was a new talent. I was wrong. It's a pity. :(
Yes, It is true that even 10 years have passed since release of this album and it can be listened over and over again. Just listen to the last part of All in your mind, it is really incredible how she manages to hit those high notes. With great producers team, wonderful rich and strong voice, breathtaking melodies make this album one of my all time favorites. Only this album is enough to consider her as a talent.
This album is definitely her best album. All eleven songs in it are masterpieces, with greatest musical arrangements and perfect voice. I thing the album is one of the greatest female albums of all time. The ballads like Vision of love, Alone in love, especially All in your mind are the best songs I have ever heard from the female artist. I think this is also the best debut album I have ever listened to. The most important thing is that it can be listened over , it is ageless
SHE IS UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLY; UGLYUGLYYUGLYUGLYUGLYUGLY

When Mariah Carey's debut album came out in 1990, her octave-skipping voice turned heads. In the r&b/dance music of the late 80's, Carey's warm, rich vocal stood out as the single "Vision of Love" rocketed up the charts. Technically, this album contains numerous stand-out cuts; among them, the gospel-influenced "Vision of Love," the depth of "I Don't Wanna Cry," and the heart-on-your-sleeve emotion of "Vanishing." Among the light-weight moments are the radio hit "Someday," the vulnerable "Love Takes Time," and the high-note-happy "All In Your Mind." While most of the production is reigned in, Carey's voice is what shines here. It is hard to believe that she was only 20 years old. All in all, this was an impressive debut for an artist that would define the 1990's and become the most successful female star of the decade.
