This overheated melodrama tells the story of a proud slave-owning family in the antebellum South and their eventual descent into adultery, incest, and sexual congress with those of other races. This overheated melodrama tells the story of a proud slave-owning family in the antebellum South and their eventual descent into adultery, incest, and sexual congress with those of other races. There's a Southern belle who's a panting nymphomaniac, a white man who craves African flesh -- and every black male is a well-endowed sexual stallion. Louisiana plantation life around 1840 is the setting for this racy drama based on the book by Kyle Onstott.

  • Overall:

    Delightfully painful

After viewing this film the first time, I had the almost exact same look on my face as the first time I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey. Not because it is beautifully encompassing, but rather because it is frighteningly amazing. Regardless, it is still o...ne of my favorite films. I laughed (it's not a comedy), I was shocked (Paramount released this??), and dumbfounded (I can't believe she just reached in and checked out his package!!). You've probably never seen a film like this before and it's worth seeing just to say you have seen it. It's poorly written in many cases poorly acted, but like a rubbernecker at the Apocalypse, I couldn't turn away. See it; you'll know what I mean. Don't show it to too many people though, this film could set race relations back 150 years. Read more Less

Excellent film. Ken Norton gives a dazzeling performance. Worth renting or purchacing if you can find it. Film would not be made today. Movies now are a lot shorter, and must appeal to "a broader audiene" Not really the "feel good movie of the ye...ar" but that is not the point of the film. Still very edgy after 25 years.
