    The first 5 minutes of this movie are easily the best and last 5 minutes of this movie. After that, the plot dives into a mindless rant of vulgarity and stupidity. Granted, one can admire the cast for portraying stupidity so well, the acting is outst...anding, but a 3 hour movie based around a simple idea that's been done before? The directing was great, but how do you direct a blunt knife to cut through a metal pole? Can't be done.Good points: Directing, acting, taking a chance on a movie based around diolouge aloneBad points: Everything else.I recommend Winter Sleepers, the debut film by Tom Tykwer who did Run Lola Run.     "Magnolia" is an amazing movie. The lives of nine LA citizens intertwine, in one way or another. The junkie and the cop, the dying man, Tom Cruise as a misogynistic self-help guru, twp bpy geniuses... it's great. It can be depressing an...d drawn-out, but it's well worth the ride. The practicaly unbelievable climax does happen, although very rarely, and has been documented. I think it really fits the film, but many have scoffed at the absurdity. Bunch of jerks. Read more Less
