A christmas nightmare...

Pros: colorful,
Cons: difficult
This toy is rated for age 6 and up on the packaging and it's not even close, I would compare this to the more advanced lego kits that are typically age 10-13 and up. The directions were very difficult to follow and actually include a mathematical formula to calculate elevation and direction. As others noted it is very fragile and will collapse at the slightest touch. Step 7 of the instructions state "align segments perfectly", which is very difficult for younger children as the connection is magnetic and does not "lock" in place and will fall down if not "perfectly" aligned. It comes with a device that plays music(ipod optional)and has sensors that go on the track to create light and sound effects, the sensors only worked intermittently. Marbles jump off the track frequently, and the "special effects segments of track" only work sometimes; the trampoline piece will only rarely bounce the ball back onto the track, the piece that reverses the ball up or down either drops the ball or it gets stuck, the "bridge" piece rarely works. I will say that it is an interesting toy and might appeal to kids that enjoy building models, doing puzzles, and other activities that require tons of patience, however if your child wants a toy to actually set up and just play with this will create nothing but frustration. ...
