    Disappointed

By John  Nov 4, 2005 | 10 out of 11 found this Magellan RoadMate 300 (North America) review helpful

Pros: good price, easy to use for local trips

Cons: maps outdated, trip planning difficult

I bought this with a trip from Maine to Florida in mind. I've found most stores do not have people qualified to talk intelligently about the gps units. After I bought the 300 I found out that the memory was solefully lacking. I now have 3 memory ...cards which for the total price, I would have been better off buying the 360 that has all the maps on the hard drive. I have yet to figure out how to save a trip plan to the sd card and then be able to call it up once the unit is in my vehicle. Tech support is only available Mon-Fri, 8-5 pst. Seeing as it is now 5:20 pm pst on a Fri and I leave tomorrow morning, the this unit will not be much help for me. Read more Less

    Pros: Touch screen, voice prompt.

    Cons: Manual could be better.

Just bought this baby last week from Newegg.com. Liking it so far...It is really turn on and go machine. Only problem (so far) was to figure out how to change the present location. Other than that I am happy with the purchase.

    User Unfriendly

Pros: Good maps, good directions after you get it working.

    Cons: Not user friendly.

This product is very difficult to get up and running. During loading of software, it stopped several times and just displayed a message: unable to load. After re-starting, once after nearly an hour of loading maps, I was able to get a running version.... The use of SD cards is exceptionally painful. For some reason I fail to grasp, you have to register your SD card. Bad enough you have to register it, you have to enter the serial number manually. Even though the software displays the SN on the screen, it is not possible to copy and paste. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! On the plus side, after all of the work it takes to get up and running, the maps from NAVTEQ are great. Read more Less
