    DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

By ToddO  Mar 1, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Magellan Meridian Gold review helpful

Pros: If the software worked, it might be a nice device.

Cons: World map software does NOT work. Horrible customer service!

-World map software does NOT work! Magellan send a replacement CD and that still did not work! After spending hours waiting for their so-called 'customer service', they admitted that the world mapping program does not work! I specifically bou...ght this device and the additional software to assist in navigating in Iraq while deployed in that war zone. They gave no adjustment and will not attempt to fix their software. DO NOT BUY! - Goes through battiers at an incredible rate! Read more Less

    MERIDIAN COLOR

    By BRUCE  Mar 20, 2006

    Pros: USER FRIENDLY

Cons: HARD TO SEE IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT

I was between the new explorist 500 and the meridian color. I did not go wrong with the meridian color. The ease of use and the ability of replacing batteries is great and although it is a serial port instead of a usb. The speed of a down load/upload ...is average. The inclusion of the sd card is a good idea and although the topo maps are available for download in the gps they are a dissapointment for quality and should be downloaded into a card reader prior to putting on the gps for speed of download. The detail is not what I expected for the amount of money I spent for the Topo maps.Do not waste your money in buying a sd card from Magellan they have no advantage over the other brands except being more expensive.I purchased a 256MB Lexar card and it works fine in the GPS.
